    I’m visiting Wisconsin Dells.

These guys have to get more snow than us and we have been traveling on 3 near perfect lanes the whole trip.

They’ve even got left over money to put rainbow flags at the rest areas. Smh

But for real, who do we have to vote out and complain to get our roads better.

I mean they are really bad compared to a lot of states in the Midwest.

Did you ever get off a main highway not leading to the Dells?
The roads there are generally much worse than the ones in Indiana.
Yes,the extra lane(call it what you want, but it is really there to stack snow) is nice. Minnesota has the same extra lane on all Highways where possible. It would be nice to have the wider roads here, for both farmers and emergency use,but the overall condition of WI roads is terrible.

They where ranked number 47,3rd worst roads out of all 50 states.

The road to the Dells is paved with tourist dollars and does not really show you the state of most roads there.

Your complaint fails to acknowledge that most of Indiana is on the freeze/thaw fault line. That means the roads literally freeze and thaw several times a week on average all winter. Each freeze busts up more pavement. Wisconsin probably only does a few cycles a season, not near as hard on the pavement. Then we have the citizen pressure to clear and salt down every thoroughfare that further destroys the pavement.

    Bottom line, totally different situations…

I’m not disagreeing but what about Ohio? Are they comparable to us? Their roads always seem better than ours.

I do not know. Ohio was not on the good or bad list. I know of no really bad Indiana state roads, I’m sure BT will, but what I do know is the roads in Indianapolis are so bad it gives the state a bad reputation. Just a lot of variables to take into account before blaming the state.

I don't know about comparing the actual condition of the roads, but having moved near Gettysburg I really miss Indiana's roads. Everything out here is one perpetual traffic jam, even in the rural areas. I can't believe how long it takes to get anywhere.

I remember going to Covington, KY once and the city streets right off the interstate were so busted up it was basicly debris and gravel, no pavement left.

There was a lady in a local FB group that ranted for days about how KY drivers come across the river, bust up our roads, and don't pay their fair share to drive on them. :):

That’s ok. During the war between Indiana and Kentucky the KentuckIan’s were throwing dynamite across the river and the boys in Indiana would light it and throw it back.

For the sake of all that is good and holy, don't suggest MORE construction. Everything is under construction right now (which is not unrelated to government's pandemic response and the inflation we will undoubtedly continue to see...in addition to slowing up traffic everywhere).

Whatever they do around here it seems they decide a year or two later it was a bad idea and redo it all over again. :):

I just wish they'd fix one thing at a time. Like they did with the "hyper-fix" method they did with I-70/I65 (I think) a few years back. Instead, they tear up everything, and then seemingly rotate a few crews from place to place, keeping everything torn up for months (including tearing up the suggested "detour" routes). Throw everything you've got at one project, get it done quickly, then move on. There has been a project going on near me for almost 6 months now, that I wouldn't have guessed would last more than a couple of weeks, giving what they were doing (putting in a sewer or storm sewer line).

They've got the intersection of 50/60/135 busted up now for several months doing drainage improvements and sidewalks.

Every time I leave Indiana I am wowed at the quality of the roads in other states.

We really are unique in the nation for bombed-out piece of crap roads. Makes you wonder where all that gas tax is going.

I have long believed that public works in Indiana is incredibly corrupt.
