I like to clean any firearms I take to the range when I get home, especially 22's. I don't mind doing it and I find it doesn't take too long. I then know they have been put away clean and oiled and will work the next time I take them out.

I make a point of cleaning after every time it's been shot, and a light lubing twice a year to prevent corrosion, usually on the solstices (not a spiritual thing, I just know those dates).

Out of curiosity, what is the protocol (if any) for barrel cleaning on something like an M61 or GAU-8/A? After so many rounds or do they just refurb/replace them?

I would like to add a note about M1 Garands: As a rule these things hate a brush, especially the 1960's barrels. Swab all you like but I would not recommend brushing the barrel until you see a drop in accuracy.

If they are going back to the safe they get cleaned like new because I don't know when they are coming back out. EDC gets wiped cleaned every time I see dust and debris gathering. Usually wood chips, and dirt.

If it's something I shot a lot I clean at 1k rds pistol and if it's rifle around the same unless I'm chasing the lowest moa possible.

I shoot black powder in just about every gun I own so I have to clean every time I bust a cap.

My long range (1000 yd) gets wiped after each shot and cleaned as soon as I can after shooting.

I’d say it apparently takes longer than being able to post something for sale on this classified ad when you’re a new member looking for fellowship and money

I don’t see classifieds as a perk, I see it as extortion to get your $20…. Craigslist it goes, along with your new member with 26 guns to sell.

And we could give 2 shakes what you see. If you do not like the rules, then start your own forum and we will have an over under on how long it lasts before it eats itself.

Man, you people just never get it.

And he only got 7 days for this.

Well, the classified ads aren't exactly a perk, so you are right there.
Qualifying posts or not, paid supporter status or not, there are some on here that will simply not deal with certain people.
    I am one of these.
If I find something in the classifieds, I go researching the seller through the posts on here.
    If I don't like what I see/read, I don't deal with you.
    My choice.
Get your panties in a bunch, or don't.

To me, the classifieds on here are more an exercise of trust ( but verify) and freedom.
The perks are getting to know the people, and in what knowledge you can glean from the site, if only you try.

It'd have been nice if our friend, who will hopefully return to INGO, would have picked a better thread to whine in.

Or maybe just added some genuine information about gun cleaning to a thread about such. :(

There are different levels of cleaning for me. I do like to pull a bore snake through pistols after a range trip just because I don’t like to see a dirty ramp. If it’s been shot a bunch (maybe 200 rounds or more), I’ll break out the Hoppes and do a real cleaning on it. If it’s a 1911, I’m more inclined to just jump straight to Hoppes and skip the bore snake. If it’s a poly gun, I might go 500 rounds between real cleaning.

Once in a while, I’ll pull a gun totally apart and scrub all of the internal nooks and crannies out. Some guns gather crud in hidden spots that don’t impact function but still bothers me to be there.

ARs don’t get cleaned as often but I like to run them wet so they kind of self clean a bit when shot. Bolt guns get more attention because I like to keep them nice and clean.
