Most small businesses still work. Big business takes the the day off - government, Banks, unions, schools, etc ... in remembrace of MLK.

Yep, I worked it for 35 years until 2021. I'm feeling grumpy about it because wife has a guy coming today to start remodeling a small bathroom on the first floor. I'm usually at work when this stuff happens and don't have to deal with the noise and disruption.

    Depends on the ordered width/length.

But I was told an average slab is 1/3 tons per foot. I think the slabs can be 40 feet.
But I could be wrong. I don't (I mean didn't) work downstairs. So, I can't rememberthe cut lengths so much.
But they were 9 inches thick, and 52 to 78 inches wide.
This. There are too many variables. We have stuff down to 30s width. We're supposed to limit hauls to 4 slabs or 96 tons. The narrow ones don't seem go over that mark even if you lift 5 while the wide ones will put it way over if you lift 3.

They're all different dimensionally though. They're pretty much all the same height although there does seem to be some minor deviation, 16ths of an inch maybe but that's still a good chunk of steel over the whole surface area. Length and width are highly variable.

Outside the specifics you mentioned, big business generally does not. President's Day is the one they do observe this time of year.

I just returned from grocery shopping at Meijer in Highland. It's rare when I can go there on a weekday morning and it was a pleasant experience. As others have reported, lots of empty freezer space in the frozen foods section, including Tyson products. I could not find a single package of saltine or oyster crackers in that store. The beer and liquor shelves remain well stocked so not to worry.
