Many if not most of these migrants are from warmer climates, they have next to nothing, they brought nothing but the clothes on their backs.

So what happens this winter when the temperature drops to below zero? They have no housing and their not prepared for it.
Do we add them to the homeless roles, do we build and give them free housing, the same housing that we haven't given our own homeless population? I don't think so. I don't intend to pay for it because I'm already living on the edge myself.

So the administration will pay for it, with what, barowed money? That just means the government will add it to my taxes and I can't afford it.

There's been a complete disconnect between federal tax revenue and federal spending for longer than I have been alive.

Biden has been consistent that he wants to increase the top marginal tax rate on incomes over $400,000. There's plenty of room to debate whether that is a good idea; there's not really an argument that those people are living on the edge financially.

That all said, giving all the refugees a middle class life here would probably be cheaper than what we were spending on the never-ending war anyway.

I would imagine that the winter care and feeding will fall more on local operations like assistance centers. These will be funded by higher local taxes with additional federal dollars so a lot will depend on where the refugees go. My guess is warmer climates and bigger cities.

Their needs get paid for with borrowed money, while Biden raises your taxes and snoops on your bank account to make sure you get fully taxed for that AR handguard you sold on INGO despite the fact that you paid income tax on the money you made to buy it in the first place AND the fact that you paid sales tax when you bought it.

It gets cold there, but I'll make this real easy for you, Simmer...your church* is going to take care of it. Ask them. They probably already have a grant-writer in the office preparing a request for federal refugee resettlement funds as we speak. If not, they can probably borrow one from the usual suspects up-thread. The next 6 months, churches are going to be attaching themselves to the Federal Teat in an attempt to get in on this action, like ticks on a hairless cat in a bean field.

*fictional account, any similarity to real or imagined churches is unintentional. But don't doubt me on this.

I think you need to move the bar a little higher to say none of your target income is struggling. Depending upon where they live and how much they squander, there could be people living paycheck to paycheck.

Can't argue with the last statement. Of course it was all borrowed money.

What's wrong with them having a middle class life in their own country? We already have poverty and homeless people here. Supporting everyone in the world is a non-starter.

Turning our middle or upper class income families into lower class families isn't the answer either.

Full disclosure: This is a 'back of the napkin' calculation

In 2021 there were 152.5 million filing taxpayers

An income of $400000 per year or more is 99th percentile, so those are the 1%

That may mean that there are as many as 1.5 million taxpayers in that bracket

$3.5 trillion ÷ 1.5 million filers = $2333333 or $2 1/3 million from each of those taxpayers in additional taxes JUST TO OFFSET THE INFRASTRUCTURE BILL let alone all of the other wasteful profligacy of this administration. That could be as much as five times the income of those taxpayers

Not going to happen. Taxes will go up for everybody because that is where the really large aggregate amounts are and have always been collected

The combined TOTAL income of the US's 660 billionaires was only $4.1 trillion in 2021, barely enough to cover just the infrastructure bill if you took it all, which is easier said than done

What happens this Winter is the illegal aliens get located and certified to vote in swing states with free everything. The gravy train is not new.

As for the extra cost, it's much bigger monetarily. Bug102 math explains this is unsustainable. Printing (money) or taxing a way to prosperity is not going to work, never has. Taxes will go up and even though a third of the current money supply has just been printed, there'll be more of that. Fiat currency is on thin ice.

Plan B notwithstanding the migrants...pay down or eliminate debt, reduce expenses, and be prepared in all ways possible. There will be a lot of changes in the next few years, on many levels, as the Country tries to dig it's way out of the mess big government created.

Time to Denny this up a bit:

    Differences Between Immigrants and Migrants

A migrant moves to another country temporarily. An immigrant moves to another country intending to settle there permanently. Migrants can be people simply moving from one region to another within their country or people crossing international borders.

So, the OP's observation, which might be correct, isn't how migrants are supposed to work/move.

As to Bug's taxes on the back of the envelope....that's only a partial list of impacted tax sources. I'm not sure I believe the offsets entirely because they were still being worked through the last time I checked and a few watchdog groups had pushed back on Senate claims of full offsets on the smaller infrastructure bill in August.

Donations are pouring in now. What happens is what happened with the Vietnamese "boat people", private organizations will pick up the slack and everything will be fine, just a bit chaotic for a while.

The "donations" are mostly from the government in the form of grants.

The [United States Conference of Catholic Bishops] collected $50 million for migration and refugee services for the year 2020, most of which came from the federal government,” Lepanto Institute President Michael Hichbor told the news site Church Militant.

It'd be nice if there were enough people making that kind of money to be significant as a whole to raise taxes on... But if you start doing the math, increasing taxes on the rich is like pissing in an ocean.

You'd be better off lowering the tax floor and a very marginal rate on the bottom, if revenue is the goal.

Eliminate sales tax to make up for it, as sales tax represents just about nothing in the end, and would do more to help the extremely poor than anything else.

Anyone want to take any of these bets?:

I bet the owners of professional sports teams will get more of your tax revenue this year then Afghan refugees will.

I bet that Nike got more of your tax money last year than the refugees will get this year.

I bet Archer-Daniels-Midland got more of your tax money last year than the refugees will get this year.

    Always follow the money;)

I expect southern California will prove attractive to many as a place to relocate. Texas I think is going to be more hostile.
