Brought me in some homegrown brats today. Bacon is sounding good though, should have logged on here b4 I came into work... Only pigs we have now though are in the freezer. I haven't seen the condition of these places, but stuff can get kinda nasty with just 3-5 at a time. It may be like when they had that whole chicken cruelty thing??? I love me some bacon, but they are asking for a 4' x 6' space? Covid hasn't quite got me to 300 pounds yet, but I could see quarantining in that spot. I didn't see on multiples, just saw that current conditions are less than 3'x5' area and multiple pigs are in a 4'x5' area? Maybe I just spoiled my pigs, like all the other freeloading animals at my house? There could be more specifics in article though, or maybe I'm missing it, days? Months? Life? All I do know is I will be cooking these brats way before noon, all this talk is making me hungry!

Man. I surprised people aren't moving from there in droves. Oh wait they are.
Problem is there comming to normally sane states and bringing there crap with them..I'm glad Indiana is not high on that list.
Yeah, we just get the Chicago 'tourists'. Not sure which is worse..

So the person who leads farm animal protection efforts at HSUS says "Why are pork producers constantly trying to overturn laws relating to cruelty to animals?"

What law has Iowa passed that the producers are trying to overturn?

And I would guess that those pork producers know more about animal husbandry than Balk. There is a reason farrowing crates are sized to limit movement of sows, the main one being mortality of piglets. If you have never pulled dead piglets that a sow has laid on and crushed, then you wouldn't know the reason behind farrowing crates.

There is barely any profit for pork producers as it stands right now. I don't see any economic advantage of a pork producer in Iowa(or NC, Missouri, Indiana, or Illinois) following a proposition in California. The right thing to do would be to not sell to California.

Foie gras (duck liver paté) was illegal in California from 2004 to 2020 (I believe).
It can now be sold again only if it's not produced in California.

California is trying to drag the rest of the country into following their restrictions. With 15% of the demand, they may well be successful to some extent, which raises prices for everyone.
Sure would be a shame if the rest of the country east of the Rockies, ignored those simpering barfmats and their stupid rules. As the poster said above, they don't deserve bacon.

    .
Bacon and other meat products will be for sale, but they will be very expensive and come from CA licensed, inspected, and certified sources. Jobs and cash for the machine.
