Is it just me or are the classifieds feeling a little more hostile than in the past? Maybe angry people should just take a breath before posting. It's not everyone's fault you've had bad luck or a bad day... it makes me sure that I don't want to meet you face to face for any type of transaction. Starting off by badmouthing everyone who is a member or making demands to follow before contacting you? Just saying, maybe there is a better way. Let me know if anyone agrees or if I',m just reading too much into it.

I bet you are reading too much into it. That and times being what they are, a bunch of good folks are probably twisted up by their worlds.
I have met a bunch of folks to buy and sell through the classifieds here. Without exception, they have all done right by me. Some have driven a hard bargain and some were particular about the terms, some o could not come to terms with, but that is just business.

Don't let it get to you. It is not your problem. At least that is my vote. I hope you have a good one.

I doubt the classified author really is like that when you'd meet them.

I sense that those ads that list prerequisites and remind responses should be by PM, not bumping that ad, etc., are only because the author is getting slightly frustrated with rule breakers.

And it's not always pleasant dealing with self entitled rule breakers.

    Just a guess.

Wonder if some sellers have had some bad experiences with potential buyers in the past, which might contribute to their succinctly stating their requirement? I do not know much about the classifieds here.

But I can say more than a few times I have had people interested in purchasing livestock and have gone out of my way to be available at a time of their request to have them end up being a no call no show which resulted in me not being able to help a friend run calves.

Two sides of the fence and often times one side can be a real … hat effecting future transactions with others.

For what its worth, I have seen a few recently that I wouldn't deal with.

I just posted three ads for guns in the last couple of days.

I try to be very clear about the items I'm selling and the terms I will sell them under. I don't want to waste my time or a potential buyers time by being vague. If it comes off as terse or rude that's not my intention.

I hate when folks post "PM sent" and then PM a low ball offer. I feel that they are trying to give the impression that the item is sold (or a deal is in the works) so they can drive the price down.

I sell items that I find no longer useful to me or to fund something else that I want more than the stuff I'm selling. I'm not a business, just a person fairly new to gun ownership navigating my way through this interesting world and meeting some interesting people.

If you don't like the tone or wording of a classified post just move on.

My experience with the folks I have met through the classifieds has been positive.

Every buying or selling experience I've had has been positive.

Having said that, I tend to not even offer people that make a point to say "low ballers ignored" or something like that. Not that I'm making crazy low offers, it just sets a negative tone for the ad IMO. Location is a big thing for me too. Not really all that interested in driving for more than an hour for a firearm purchase, with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions. I also tend to avoid people that list everything they've spent on the firearm as if it matters to the FMV.

After you sell a few times, you learn there are some things to be clear about up front. like for me, I like to be clear I am up near the MI line so, no, I am not driving to Indy to meet up…

Probably due to so many tire kickers the seller has started getting exasperated by the nonsense.

There's a reason I really don't sell off or trade gear unless it's with a close friend, or if someone has specifically asked for an item I have at a price I want to sell it for.

I wish we would stop the whole "PM" sent thing. You can not get a lock on or mark your territory. I hate it and it bumps the ad back up.

In this we have had an onslaught of new buyers intent on getting everything for nothing so they can flip it elsewhere. We catch this all the time. The tone between seller and buyer has become a bit more adversarial in some instances. But the majority still hold true to our values.
The sellers are (As Marvin stated) just setting up a barrier against the stupid.

Can't you just lock the thread to eliminate posting in it? Then unlock it to bump when you choose to? I was under the impression some folks were doing this?

You can lock and unlock it for a while - I just don't know how long that function is available. My concern is that many do not mark their ads when the item sells and a lock showing on the thread may lead people to believe the item is gone.

To be honest, I almost posted in Marvin's ad just to be a butt after reading that. Something like "Im here commenting but I aint buying. So go ahead, sue me." just to prove a point. :):

But I decided to let politeness win and kept moving.

(And I didnt want my pee pee slapped by the mods for breaking an actual rule )

Nice rifle, btw. Too bad Ive already got too many of those. LOL
