As an aside, I would like to make a snide a remark about how countries with socialized medicine can't seem to get the vaccine out in large numbers, but here we are with "free"...government bought an paid for vaccines distributed through government channels, so I don't have much to say on that point.

I guess the good news is that our big pharma rocks.
yeah. I'd say they've made a pretty good living on Covid.

Interesting. The vaccines were China's and AstraZeneca.

"AstraZeneca’s vaccine appeared to be less effective against that variant in a study, and South Africa halted plans to use it."

So China's vaccine is ****. AstraZenaca is ****.

Raw numbers? What do they consider a surge?

    [ETA]

1,068 active cases, up from 612 a week before.

    [ETA2]

"Other nations that have vaccinated large portions of their populations have seen Covid cases plunge. In the U.K., where 52% of people have a first dose, cases are down 96% from a recent high in January. In Israel, where 60% have had at least one dose, new cases are down 99%"

Perhaps different variants and better vaccines.

Is there any reliable data on the sputnik-V vaccine?

Know quite a few friends in other countries who have had it with absolutely no negative side effects.

Good question...I have access to several journals. If I remember I'll see if anything is published.

    Yeah, about this fake infographic...

The CDC breaks down ages by 65-75, 75-84, and 85+, with each older age group showing increased mortality.

In the 65+ age demographic, there have been 4.426M confirmed positive COVID cases and 449,938 COVID deaths.

That's a 10.16% Case Fatality Ratio for the 65+ demographic.

Lots of FAKE graphics out there :lol2:

This one doesn't even use the correct age breakdowns. I can't beleive that people actually fall for this crap. It only takes a few seconds to confirm data before it is passed along. Easiest to lose all credibility in a discussion is to pass along obviously faked data.

Sputnik-V is one of the old style vaccines, similar to the Oxford/AstraZenica and the J&J vaccine. Russia had the data peer reviewed and did large sample size trials. It appears to be at least as effective as the J&J and OX/AZ vaccines.

On the other hand, the Chinese SinoVac vaccine is pretty close to worthless. Several nations that used the Sinovac are having serious problems with covid infections.

There also appears to be hope for a TREATMENT in the form of Ivermectin as a couple lawsuits have been won by families of patients who are now forcing hospitals to administer Ivermectin. There is not a lot of strong data, but there is a huge amount of acedotal information that the drug may be seriously effective against Covid. It is cheap, supposedly safe, available and made as a generic.

Those are some serious strikes against it.

Well only if the drug Ivermectin actually works. The jury is still out on that but it looks good. That said, it typically takes a COURT ORDER to get ivermectin in the USA for Covid.

Video may be interesting, it sources a paper from India:

Is this the Illinois Coma patient? This one looks like a last ditch effort, it'll be interesting if if works.

I'm fine with lawsuits that try to get ivermectin treatment to patients when the doctor is willing, but the FDA doesn't allow.

I am very not fine with a lawsuit to force a doctor to render a specific treatment that they do not want to. That's a very slippery slope.

I agree. The one I saw was kind of a last ditch effort to a coma patient, I kind of wonder why the Dr. Was so reluctant to try it. We will see I guess

In the Illinois case, the family has a DOCTOR who is willing to administer it.

    The HOSPITAL prevented the treatment.

The COURT ORDER allows the doctor to come to the hospital daily to personally administer the treatment. If I understand it correctly, the hospital staff is not involved in any way in the administration of the drug.
