Hmm, no, I stopped shooting sometime in October for deer season and following my son's Southport Cardinals Varsity football games. That is weird though, they have my name and USPSA number down shooting in a Limited match....

You absolutely do not have to reload, I shot WWB 9mm from Walmart the whole season.

Production is very easy to get started in, most any Glock, XD, M&P type pistol, holster and 4-6 mags will do it. 150-200 rounds normally cover it I think, if that many. Glock 34 /17 is the most used, but I see the M&P9 and 9Pro gaining ground over the next year.

and I was wrong earlier, I made Class D and will be working on making Class "C" this year, think my last 2 qualifiers were in the C range.

Glad to hear others besides me are going to shoot factory ammo and donate the brass to the cause :D

I can find the similarities and differences on my own, but do you guys like USPSA more than IDPA? I know that's probably at least 5 threads worth of question, but quick answers for now?

I have a feeling that i might be a sig p226 owner down the road, and im testing the waters on the different sports besides steel.

As promised, here is a list of what I will use in Production. Most came from observing and asking other Glock shooters (Shooter521, M_Deaner, BigCraig, NotaSCCRMom, and Parke Lucas from FNS and USPSA matches)

    Gun: Glock 34

Trigger: Vanek Custom Trigger drop in kit

Barrel: Storm Lake Drop in match barrel (google it, you'll find it cheaper on some glock parts sight than their website)

    Holster: BladeTech DOH Sting-Ray Holster

    or

    Kytac Super Hooper link

Mag Pouches: Last year I just used dual Fobus mag pouches, this year I may do something like one of these choices on a CR Speed Belt:

a few Glock mag pouch options

or the Ktyac mag pouches: link

    Sights:

    Warren Tactical Sevigny

    or

Dawson Precision adjustable rear and FO front, I'll have to ask BigCraig for the sizes again. Think the front is .300Tall x .100Wide for the G34, according to recent posts on BrianEnos.com in the glock section.

GLOCK ADJUSTABLE REAR SIGHT W/TARGET BLADE GLOCK ADJUSTABLE REAR SIGHT W/TARGET BLADE Detail Page

    and

I went with USPSA basically because there is a big group of INGO guys that hit up the same few matches a month and it made learning a lot easier.

USPSA is a little more run n gun, but you have a blast shooting and learn a lot.

I'm excited to shoot USPSA this year, I may actually join! Anyhow, I'll stick with production, I like it, and I hope I get better. And no, you don"t have to reload, as a matter of fact I'd encourage people to use factory ammo and leave your brass behind for people like me and M_Deaner!

I'm not yet but i'll be in the same boat down the road. I'm absolutely in love with FNS, and i'm going to try Atlanta CC, but all i have right now is my 10/22. I've started looking into different handguns and applied for a license, but i'm going to try to come watch some matches this year.

Do you basically HAVE to reload to make this a viable sport? What's the normal round count per match? 250 ish x 2?

Looking at the ACC USPSA results from 09, Hickman, are you the Hickman that shot in November?

Your 10/22 is a great gun for steel, pm ingo member msquared, he is a top notch shooter and has a lot of experience with the 10/22 and steel. He is also the guy you check in with when you shoot uspsa at acc.

I'm going to shoot production with my M&P 9mm for the most part, but I might try out limited minor to see if I like only having to reload once per stage.

For the first couple of years I bounced around shooting Limited 10, Single Stack and Production. I was stuck in C class for almost 3 years doing this. Then I would stick with one division for a longer period of time and moved all of them including limited to B class.
Then all last year I shot Limited and was able to move into A class.

I think starting out you should experiment some. Try different guns, barrow a buddies 1911 or Glock or try shooting Limited minor and production.
Get you geared lined out, and figure what works best for you.

Then pick a division and decide to stay in there for a whole season or until you reach the next classification with the goal of doing that by the end of the season.
Track yourself for the season, find someone that is a little better and keep comparing yourself to them. Get on their squad, watch and listen, learn some.

I'll put together a detail list of the equipment I used last year and what I plan on doing this year later tonight when I get home.

Have a gun in mind that your are going to use?

Thanks for the list you posted...

I was thinking about just using my full size M&P 9. I'm taking the ACT CP 101 so hopefully that'll give me a better idea of what I'm doing.

It certainly will and that M&P9 will be plenty. Might look in to getting that trigger job mentioned above.

I would like to start in uspsa, but I do not know where to begin? can anyone give some insight?

    PM sent.

Anyone else thinking of getting started in USPSA ACT is going to have a Competition 101 class at the Atlanta Conservation Club on March 27th. This would be a great place to begin.

We will cover rules, scoring, divisions, classes, equipment, safety, shooting fundamentals, competition fundamentals, stage break down, how matches work.

This class will shorter your learning curve and I think save you time and money in the long run, because you will not have to learn everything by trial and error. Well, actually you will be it will have been our trial and error.:) We can tell you many things that don't work, but we have also learned what does work.

I think I'm gonna shoot SS. I'll match my new license plate.:D

The only other division I could shoot with my guns is revolver.

I'm just not that masochistic. I deserve a good beatin' and I flog myself regularly in SS. But revolver? I was never that bad.

I wish that I would have had an opportunity to take a class like this back in 2005 when I started shooting USPSA matches. I was lost the first time I showed up at a match.
It took me a year to figure out the scoring and the importance of how speed and accuracy truely matters in USPSA shooting.
Just understanding the basics that you can learn in a class like this is worth it. It answers questions that you won't think about until you start shooting competition. To get that stuff under your belt before you even show up at a club match is huge

I agree. I'd been shooting IDPA for several years and and taking this class could have probably moved me up a class a year earlier.
