Maybe 2010 will be the year I go ALL GLOCK ALL THE TIME!

    Hey Rhino,

Since you are going to one of those fad guns I might be willing to take that 9mm single stack and all the mags for it off your hands for a couple of hundred dollars. I've been looking for one for a while. LOL

    Happy New Year Brother!

If he is not going to use it anymore then he ought to just give it to you.

Since my 12 year old son will be shooting Production, I figured I would hang close to him since this is our first year shooting.

I will probably pick up another Glock, hopefully a new Glock with the removable back straps for Austin and I can use the Glock 19 we now have.

You really should compete with your son. But you don't want a Glock. You want an XD. They feel and point very much like a 1911.

In the interests of keeping father and son together, while allowing you to still shoot a gun that feels much like you are used to, I will trade you my XD9sc for your Kimber.

    You are welcome :D

    Trigger work?
I would have guessed 124s at 1050. Do they like the heavier bullets or is it still personal preference?
Also, are there still issues with cast bullets or was that a myth?

    Rhino,
Is this going Glock thing with you anything at all like the old time Imperialists going native?????

Yeah, I'm like a WWII pilot shot down over some south pacific island jungle.

    Or maybe it's Stockholm Syndrome.

IMO, the heavier bullets seem to have less recoil but can make the gun feel sluggish... really, it's personal preference. Now that I've been shooting limited I like the 125s in my 9mm glocks because they have a feel more like my limited gun.

I have shot thousands of cast lead bullets through stock glock 9mm barrels. I'm not sure I'd try it in the 40 S&W models though... 9mm is actually a higher pressure round than 40, but as I'm sure you've heard there have been some problems with KBs when shooting reloads through the Glock 40s. My 40-cal Glocks have aftermarket barrels.

How do those compare to the ones with the external mods?

never messed with external mods because I wouldn't be able to use in Production Division.

I plan on building a Limited/Production using a G35 using this trigger because I really don't need anything lighter.

M_Deaner or BigCraig would know better than I.

How do those compare to the ones with the external mods?

The biggest difference, IMO, between the production legal Vanek kit and the version with the external mods is the pretravel. For the "externally modified" trigger, Charlie Vanek includes a pretravel adjustment built into the ejector housing. He then brings pretravel down to the minimum and clips off the rear of the trigger safety so the trigger safety still works. He also bends out the part of the trigger bar that engages the firing pin safety to allow it to continue to function with most pretravel removed (FYI - It is possible to remove all of the pretravel in a Glock by simply bending the part of the trigger bar that holds the trigger return spring to a 90+ degree angle, but none of the safetys will work.) For the "externally modified" trigger, Charlie Vanek also relocates the trigger fulcrum point - he moves it further up, and he drills a new hole further up the trigger bar (I'm not going to give dimensions here out of respect for Charlie's work). He then fills the old hole on the trigger with black epoxy.

The difference between the "production legal" Vanek trigger and the "externally modified" trigger? About 1/2 pound of trigger pull based on my sample pool of one of each trigger and one of each gun. But most pretravel is removed in the externally modified trigger and as a result the feel is quite a bit nicer. There is even the option to remove more trigger travel by filing down the bottom of the striker.

My G-24 has a Vanek Grand Master trigger kit in it (I bought it used, and it was already installed).

I did a "externally modified" trigger job on my G-35 myself. Charlie does better work - it a little bit lighter than the job I did on my G-35, and still crisp. But I'm happy with how my "home" trigger job worked out, and the price was sure right.

Thanks for the info. I've been running a stock trigger on my 35, and have been sort of casually considering changing it. I like the safties and relibility of the factory trigger, but it is strictly a game gun.

Glock dominates the Production division... come to the dark side.... we have better kool-aide... and cheaper mags... and more accessories... :D

    You haven't shot my Smith & Wesson 5906, have you . . .

You can get one and a box full of mags for less than the price of a Glock!
