    As part of the latest round of sanctions (issued today) against Russia for entering Crimea, President Obama has blocked further importation of new Kalashnikov products. Products that are only partially paid for or are on consignment are in limbo. It does not appear to affect items that have already been imported and fully paid for. For him, this is just killing two birds with one stone...

    Executive Order #13662
    Treasury today has also designated and blocked the assets of Almaz-Antey, Federal State Unitary Enterprise State Research and Production Enterprise Bazalt, JSC Concern Sozvezdie, JSC MIC NPO Mashinostroyenia, Kalashnikov Concern, KBP Instrument Design Bureau, Radio-Electronic Technologies, and Uralvagonzavod pursuant to E.O. 13661 for operating in the arms or related materiel sector in the Russian Federation. The designated firms are responsible for the production of a range of materiel, from small arms to mortar shells to tanks. As a result of today’s action under E.O. 13661, any assets of the entities designated that are within U.S. jurisdiction must be frozen. In addition, transactions by U.S. persons or within the United States involving the entities designated today under E.O. 13661 are generally prohibited.

    So no more Veprs?

    Does this affect only Russian produced Kalashes, or all licensed copies as well? As in, think of the WASR. Produced in Romania, but I imagine they give some sort of licensing fee to the Russians.

    Based on what I read, it appears to affect items specifically from the "Kalashnikov Concern" company.

    they are bolt action and not semiauto evil I think. At least how I read it.

    this rule without congress stuff either stops or he gets impeached.

    Don't hold your breath! The "constituency" isn't crying bloody murder over it because it doesn't affect their free phones, welfare checks, free cheese, etc. Until he exec orders those things out of existence he's in like Flynn!

    Let me see, the last time I could purchase a true Kalashnikov was... never!

    Regardless, not surprised as the constitution stomping continues.

    I don't understand where you guys are getting the gun control angle? The EO relates to domestic financial dealings with Russian companies. Nothing about these rifles themselves has been banned from importation. They are sanctions on the people who sell them. The action seems within the preview of executive powers.

    [h=3]Section 8[/h]1: The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
    2: To borrow Money on the credit of the United States;
    3: To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;

    No, this is not an executive authority but rather a congressional authority as found in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution.
