Horrible mistake, the officer was CLEARLY shaken up, ONCE he realized what had happened! I do believe I heard him say "please Lord forgive me". From what I saw, I probably would have fired too, but I wasn't there? Sounds harsh, but old man screwed up, but lived to tell, and officer may need additional training to overcome the stigma in order to be able to react as such, when it is really necessary. As to the second vid, I believe that is the one where the officer died because of earlier admonishment for being too quick to guns?

hopping out of the vehicle during the stop and grabbing an "object" while doing so! Nothing more nothing less. Better than 100% sure, if he had stayed in the vehicle! NONE of this would have happened.

By this reasoning the General Population needs training as well so they know how NOT to behave? Law Enforcement gets trained to deal with people and in this instance the people need trained to deal with LEO?

Nope. The difference is that it is the LEOs job. It's not the general population's job to know how to deal with LEOs.

It is real easy to see how this kinda thing is becoming common with the number of bad guys to good guys at any given place and time. With budget cuts forcing down sizing our police force to, well in my county 2 county during the day and 1 at night, the good guys are way out numbered any given minute of any given day. I for one would not hold the actions of this office against him, but more to the state of our country, and until you have to make a split second choice to live or die, please don't stand in judgement. You have know idea what you would have done if this was your decision.

Don't remember seeing that in any of the human training videos must have missed it. Old people have a tendency to do things like this, and as far as "hopping", well never mind. Must be cool to be clairvoyant though.

Common sense, to stay in the car, is it not?

Pretty sure I hear several commands to Stop, and not to move too. Doesnt make it any less terrible, but how many times can a person not respond in a manner that conveys compliance, or at least not typically threatening mannerisms before its OK to shoot?

If I were in his shoes, old, young, man or woman, moving in a threatening manner, and failing to comply to simple commands to STOP MOVING, I would have shot too. The officer is just there doing a job, and I am sure, just like most of the rest of us here, that we would like to go home to our families at the end of the shift.

I stand by this NOT being a training issue. If training was the issue, we'd see a lot more of these instances. I can't even think of one that is remotely similar to this.

Well, I had this one open in another tab. Today's innocent shot.

How much training do you think Deputy Billy Lee Longstreet Lee gets in Banjo County, Alabama?

They shoot because of a LACK of training.

It is not a training issue via commission, but rather omission that causes them to overreact resulting in the excessive force incidents. However, it is a police culture problem that underlies this problem.

This problem is departmental. It needs to be corrected via the citizenry ensuring that police leadership change.

I can and do lump in any officer who condones this, and anyone even remotely suggests it's the citizen's fault. They are absolutely part of the problem for making excuses.
