I am not so concerned by the Saudis as I am with Iran. While they do sponsor worldwide jihad, they do so by creeping introduction and out-multiplying of local populations rather than by making non-Moslems glow in the dark (Saudi origins of 911 participants notwithstanding). Their deal is contingent on Iran possessing a working weapon. While they are not my first choice of nuclear-armed people, they are certainly more stable and less dangerous than Iran, Pakistan, or North Korea. Also noteworthy is that the Kingdom has had several military engagements with Iran in recent years while not doing so with Israel. While the Saudis dislike/hate Israel by virtue of Israel being a Jewish state, they correctly understand that Israel is not a threat to them so long as they don't start it while Iran is--to the point that they offered Israel use of Saudi airspace in the event of an Israeli action to stop the Iranian nuclear program.

I'm not a huge fan of Israel but given their circumstances, location, and history I understand their thinking on survival.
As far as Iran and other unfriendly countries go....IF They want to run their mouths and say they'll destroy the unworthy then they shall reap what they sow.
Live in peace and don't threaten. IF you don't then you'll most likely be destroyed yourself by your own actions. And well deservedly so.

If you're an American I trust you understand the irony of your statement?

I hope Obama doesn't play a lot of poker. He think he would soon be broke.

None of the middle eastern countries cares what we want. As long as our political "goals" coincide with theirs but when we oppose them we are the western devils. The Israelis can do what them damn well please with their nukes because most of their neighbors have either sworn to or tried to destroy their little country. The only funny part is everyone of the countries that has tried to destroy Israel doesnt have the cojones to take then out. Arming the Iranians with nukes will essentially even the playing field.

ha yes that's helpful "Hey Iran, you don't have the cojones to take Israel out!"
As for 'they only like us as long as our goals line up', duh. The same people complaining about Iran don't say a word when billions is sent to the nuclear Pakistan who have plenty of Al Qaeda and Taliban. Or the billions worth of weapons systems we'll sell to the dictatorial monarchy in Saudi Arabia, you know that place that squashes civil rights and spawned the leader of Al Qaeda and the 911 terrorists.
We keep driving off the road and over correcting in the middle east. We support terrorists who are a means to our narrow ends at the time then wonder why it comes back to bite us in the ass.
If Israel thinks they can take on the whole middle east in a pre emptive war, let them but don't involve us just because Christians like Jews more than Muslims.
Iran is never going to make the first move in a war with Israel, they never said they would attack Israel, they haven't attacked anyone in two centuries and they don't have a reason to start now.

You think this is incompetence? THIS IS WHAT THEY WANT. you say "they dont know what they are doing", the truth is they know exactly what they are doing, you may not be willing to accept the fact that they want this. this is our gov't, they are screwing the country. THIS IS DESIGNED BY THEM. why is this so hard to believe? NO ONE IS THIS STUPID, you just say they are stupid to make you feel better and think it can be fixed. This is what they want.

This is the new world order. Nuclear Islam. Let's see if we like it better than the Atomic Reds we formerly worried about...

Imagine Barry in the WH during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Wonder what Valerie Jarrett would have done?

    To All,

I guess I will be the odd man out here but I don't think it is wise for us to base our policy decisions on what ANY other country thinks. We should base our policy decisions on our own values and principles.

For myself, I believe that Iran is a recognized, sovereign nation that should have the same weapons in its arsenal as all other nations have the right to. If Pakistan, India, Israel, Ukraine, Russia, China, the United States, Great Britian, etc etc etc can have nuclear weapons - then Iran can have nuclear weapons!

It is our hubris at believing we can dictate to other nations what they may and may not use to defend themselves that causes us as many problems as the idiot zealots within those nations.

I guess I may have to stand alone on my island in my bunker believing that if I can have a Barrett .50 caliber rifle then everyone else can too. Silly me!

    Regards,

    Doug

Here are the particulars of the deal. Looks pretty good on its face. It lasts for 6 months, while a permanent deal is negotiated. The only ones screaming about the deal are, as usual, the Israeli's.

BBC News - Iran agrees to curb nuclear activity at Geneva talks

After four days of negotiations, representatives of the so-called P5+1 group of nations - the US, the UK, Russia, China, France and Germany - reached the agreement with Iran in the early hours of Sunday.Key points of the deal have been released by the White House:

    • Iran will stop enriching uranium beyond 5%, and "neutralise" its stockpile of uranium enriched beyond this point
    • Iran will give greater access to inspectors including daily access at Natanz and Fordo nuclear sites
    • There will be no further development of the Arak plant which it is believed could produce plutonium
    • In return, there will be no new nuclear-related sanctions for six months if Iran sticks by the accord
    • Iran will also receive sanctions relief worth about $7bn (£4.3bn) on sectors including precious metals
US Secretary of State John Kerry said the agreement would make the region safer for its allies, including Israel.

Chamberlain worked out a pretty good deal with Hitler, too. Now how did that turn out again?

We're not beholden to Israel, but perhaps a re-examination of American interests is in order?

I think I lean towards Libertarian01's position...Let them design and build whatever they can come up with on their own. Just realize that the US will defend itself by any and all means at their disposal to ensure any threat to their interest(s) are stopped.

The bad thing is, we really don't have the stomach to stop the threats anymore.

    ^^^ Exactly.

What do you see that's wrong with the deal?

It is never a good deal when one side simply cannot be trusted. What they say publicly or promise has nothing to do with their real intent, as voiced over and over by their leadership. Here is 34 years of Iranian history in 2 minutes:

So, using what passes for logic in Jerchap world, we should not be negotiating with anyone. That's rational.

This is a preliminary agreement between Iran and the negotiating nations and, as far as I can see, there are no serious drawbacks to this deal, as it stands now. The inspectors will be allowed in and the one plant they have that could be capable of producing plutonium will no be allowed online. I guess in Jerchap world we should just start a war? Maybe not do the adult thing and talk it over till we reach a mutually agreeable solution to a perceived problem? No wonder no-one wants to deal with Americans on the right.
