I don't know if this is the best place to post this, but....

What is a good example of a certificate of private sale? What information should I get from the individual? I've searched both INGO and google for a good answer.

    Thanks.

    Thanks a lot!

What information should I get from the individual?

When I have sold the only thing I require is a DL/ID. I know some people give reasons why they will not show a DL but how is someone to know what state someone is from?

I saw this happen at the Fort Wayne gunshow, a man was trying to buy a pistol from a near-by table and was from Ohio. Had the seller not checked his ID someone could have gotten into serious trouble.

I think a bill of sale is great for a sellers piece of mind, but would it hold weight in court if it needed to?

I took the liberty of converting Publicservant's Bill of Sale into pdf and hosting it here BILL OF SALE. Minor font adjustment made to facilitate one page printing. I hope its ok. Public if you want it off of there just tell me I'll delete it.
Oh no...that's fine with me. I probably stole it off here somewhere....so just call me Joe Biden. ;)

Here is the paperwork I like to see.

Honestly, if someone handed me a sheet to fill out, I probably wouldn't buy. I would show my LTCH though.

If you buy from a gunshop and have to fill out paperwork why is it any different when you meet some stranger you never meet before to do the same. Just because someone has that pink card does not mean anything. What if buy your gun use in in a murder and the cops question you.

"Sir where is your gun registered to you"
"Officer i sold it to someone with a pink card"
"Ok son time to meet Bubba"

Sorry i really dont want to meet Bubba. Better safe than sorry, but to each his own.

There is no gun registration in this state...

This would definitely be a deal breaker for me.

I do not mind showing my Drivers License or my LTCH. No copies are allowed of either, and yes I have had people ask for them in the past. I might do the receipt then, with no personal information.

I am not so much worried about the LEO tracking down of all the weapons out there. That is an asinine thought anyway, think of how many millions of weapons in the states were made before serial numbers were even required. My concern is what more what might or could be done with my information...

Indiana has NO Registration files! It is one of the reasons I like this state!

Is that what you tell the gun shops too, you will not fill out their bill of sale?
Cant that bill of sale at the gun shop that has the serial number still track you down when they find a casing your gun. Dont the manufactures keep a round from each gun so they can track it to the dealer who then in turn track it to the bill of sale. Maybe im stupid, please correct me.

Uhhh... Not quite the same thing. The forms could possibly be used for this. They are unfortunately a requirement for a business to use these forms. Not for private person.

Next let us think about the number of Firearms any given manufacturer builds in a year. Now let us think about the amount of space it would take to store that one round from each gun that same manufacturer has ever made. And how easy is it to just change your barrel. Now that round that is not required to be stored is useless.
