Yup, you read it right. I was thinking earlier and thought I'd pose the question to you all.

If SHTF tomorrow and war broke out, would you choose to have Hollow Point, Full Metal Jacket, or Soft Point in your pistols/rifles?

Personally I'd go for FMJ all around just for penetration sake, but what about you?

    EDIT, I wasn't clear, sorry.

I'm not talking about Home invasion, or car jacking, or thug pulling a gun on you in a dark alley or something. If I'm running for my life because ALL OUT WAR has broken out, i'm not worried about OVER penetration. If nothing else I'm worried about UNDER penetration. But that's just me.

Our home defense weapon is Mossberg 590 loaded with 00 buckshot in the tube & with brenneke slugs in reserve in the speed feed stock.

The 590 coupled with my carry piece, a G17 w/2 spare magazines, should be more than enough to deal with any self-defense scenarios that I can imagine either pre or post-SHTF.

Ok, well, I guess I didn't think about shotguns since I don't have one...

Ok. You have to bug out. Leave your home behind. Maybe you live in the city, maybe in the Country. Either way you have to leave. No choice. I don't care why. But you have to go. You can carry maybe 2K of each caliber.

    You take...............
And you would do this because...........

Forgot to add that you have time to go through your home to grab what you need. But you still must leave your home behind. Maybe for good.

    I think your over-thinking this.

Don't get me wrong, it's good to be prepared and stuff but you might want to ease up a little on hammering down every single little detail you could possibly think of.

Basically you'll want to use ammunition that works well in your weapon, if you got some of that, well then your all set.

i chose hp due to lack of penetration. i worry about shooting through the wall and hitting family

I only stock ammo that works well in my guns so that's not an issue. But I am hammering out every single detail of every single situation that I can possibly think of. You can NEVER be over prepared for anything. No one can ever be prepared for everything.

This was just one of those things that crossed my mind and I thought I would share it with everyone to see what they thought and what they would do and why. If that's so wrong then many of us on here are pretty much ****ed.

I'm preparing for a hellaious fight in the future. It's been threatened to happen and I'm not trying to be caught with my pants down when it all goes down.

Yes yes yes, I know. No .22's and no shotguns. But I do have two good pistols, an AR and a nice Marlin 30AW Lever .30-30 with a small stock of Hornaday LeveRevolution. It's all I will use in that gun. I'm also lacking on the mags except for the AR but I'm working on the pistols.

I always keep seeing the guy on "Last of the Mohicans" where he's at the fort and guys keep handing him muskets and he keeps sniping the BG's with amazing shots... Sends shivers up my spine....

Snipers create the most havoc via demoralizing the enemy. I didnt go to sniper school but a buddy on flight went down there and loved it!

I'd use everything I got. Perhaps I'd load up different guns with different ammo, but I really have mostly GFMJ ammo anyway.

I am guessing that we have different ideas of what a "survivalist" is then, because in my book a "survivalist" seeks to avoid getting into hellaious firefights, if it is at all possible.

Oh no, you are exactly right. If at all possible. IF. There is ALWAYS that chance that it could happen. Maybe it's a SLIM chance, but it's still a chance. And so why not be prepared for that? Better to be calm cool and collected than running screaming in a panic, right?

I dunno. Maybe you're right and I'm overthinking things. That's what I do, after all. I mean I constantly think about the worst situation, what's this gonna do, how am I going to react to that, what if this happens, OMGWTF, etc. Then I always hope for the best. Nothing EVER goes as planned so why expect it will? If you have kids you know what I mean. If you've been in the army you know what I mean. SNAFU anyone? :)

I guess my whole thinking in this thread was that for those who have closets that look like Gun Store Ammo Racks, and millionaires with nothing but ammo laying around, what would you want to have the most of? FMJ for penetration or HP its expansion.

What ever you choose, why did you choose it?

That's all I really wanna know.

    :D :patriot: :ar15:
