My comment was based upon the City Market experience and what I've read on officer.com about today's walk. Given the publicity and advanced notice of this event, had there been a police confrontation it might well have fallen under the posted definition. Harassment was in quotes intentionally. Nothing personal implied.

The thread on officer.com was about the OC walk on 11/01, there hasn't been a thread posted over there about today's walk. The meeting that SJ and IndyMonkey had with the representatives from IMPD and ISP guaranteed that there wasn't going to be a "confrontation", unless one of the walkers or an uninvolved person did something to necessitate one. I didn't take it personally, I just wanted to provide the definition of harassment, since it is sometimes improperly used. ;)

I'm glad the walk went well and without incident. I heard that the INGOers and the cops were on their best behavior. :yesway:

You guys see any news crews downtown?
What channel do we tune into at noon and 5:00?

Fox59 was there, so was Channel 6.

Cathy and Sean got interviewed... look for 'em starting at 4 :) Reporter and I chatted for a while, had a good conversation.

None of the strokes of doom that were forecast took place. It was a good walk.

Wonder what this can be attributed to?
    Weather?...
    Holiday timing?...

Possibly the berating and name calling of those who might disagree with the motives and methods for "educating" the public/police?

Part of it was the fact that it was frigging COLD LOL. I know a fair number of folks who had said they were coming didn't show.

As sadder part was the hysteria that was generated by some folks, including a few gun owners, who are panicked at the thought of Americans actually making an active, peaceful, demonstration of our rights. This wasn't just about 2nd Amendment, it was also about the 1st, and others. The right to be armed, the right to peaceably assemble, the right to be free of government harrassment as we go about our business. That's what we demonstrated the ability to do today, and it's something that needs done, IMHO.

Awesome to hear there were no negative interactions. :yesway:

    How about positive ones?

I was walking in the back with my daughter trying to control the wind sail that was my American Flag. I saw MANY fliers getting handed out and heard many people talking about the fliers. Heard one lady at the mall say something about giving her and her coworkers something to read on break.

I'd say that overall, we educated quite a few people. That, in my mind, makes the event not uneventful, but a success.

I just read the posts on officer.com and it was a bit shocking. I really had no idea that cops were so arrogant. We are "social retards" in their eyes because we choose to exercise our 2nd. My impression of cops has changed and not for the better. I will no longer use the term "leo" because it is obvious to me that they have no concept of actual law enforcement.

I WILL attend the next walk and I think we should get shirts made that say "Social Retard".

Yeah, I know. I really would like to hear about the number of people contacted and even the things that could be done better, next time. Maybe someone could start an after action review thread to talk about the positives to build upon and the negatives, which can be discussed to ensure they are properly addressed the next time?

What do you feel was not properly addressed this time, aside from the fact that the organizer was blindsided by anti-gun activity from some gun owners? How do you propose we handle people people we should be able to trust spreading non-factual information to city council members about our intent? We expect and can handle that sort of thing from the Brady Bunch. It's worse when it comes from our own ranks, and harder to deal with.

The police were involved and briefed. Unlike other events, this one had news coverage, which we will have to wait for another hour or so to see if it was positive, but I suspect Fox59's will at least be balanced. I didn't talk to the Channel 6 dude, so don't know what their take on it was.

There was sufficient crowd control, the public got to see Americans exercising several Constitutional rights, and the news coverage will do more to spread our word to the general public than any amount of preaching to the choir by holding shooting events such people will never hear about could do, though such events have their own place and importance.

I understand the feeling, but do realize that those officers are most likely a small minority. I know it's not any consolation, but I don't feel that most officers feel the same way as them.

Side note and idea for next time that came to me today:

On the backside of your flyers, you should get a local company or restaurant to sponsor some coupons. That way, people will be less likely to walk around the corner and dump it in the trash. I'm thinking a place like Dick's BBQ, Papa Roux, etc.

Another plus is that people might read the information more in detail when they get home and put their new "coupons" away.

    Just a thought.

Being one of the skeptics, I'll add my congratulations on an uneventful event. My guess is the media being there virtually eliminated the potential police "harassment."

I think a VERY worthwhile side effect, and one of the objectives of this event that was achieved, is that during the course of setting this up, the organzer was able to educate some cops on things they needed to know, but did not. One example is that the officers apparently were not aware of the fact that the address on the LTCH does not have to match our current address. IOW, they thought we were required to obtain an updated LTCH when we moved instead of merely notifying the state police. As a result of this event, at least some IMPD cops may now be able to avoid arresting someone they incorrectly thought had an invalid LTCH.

Thanks for the good time, guys. Although small, it was still an enjoyable event.

If anyone finds out if the story is online or when it'll be on TV, be sure to post it here

Fox59 guy said he wasn't sure what time it would air, but that a good bet would be to start watching at 4.

An awful lot of passerby certainly took an interest in what we were doing, and were rewarded for their curiosity with a very nice Indiana gun law flyer :)

And I am now convinced that Indianopolis is one of the nicest, cleanest big cities I've been in. It was my first time downtown, I was very favorably impressed.
