Lt. Colonel Oliver North, USMC (Ret.) will be the next president of the National Rifle Association of America, the NRA announced Monday. Former NRA president Pete Brownell announced this morning that he has decided not to seek election to another term as president so that he can devote his full energy and time to his family business.

North is a popular speaker before the group and brings star power at a time when gun-control advocates seek to seize on momentum against the gun lobby in the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history and one of the deadliest school shootings.

INGO will debate the propriety of a pro-2A celebrity representing the NRA, despite his admissions to felonies that were overturned on a technicality.

    This could get interesting.

One man's technicality is another man's Constitutional right to due process.

There are also some on INGO, such as myself, who do not believe all felonies are equal and some "felons" should not lose their rights.

NRA is a privately-held corporation. Wane LaPeirre is the Executive Vice President and acts as the CEO (operations). The Board provides oversight, the President leads the Board. If the Board would have remained in the control of Fudds (who control who acts as CEO, thus the operational direction) in the 70s there would be maybe 1.5 million NRA members.

It is interesting that a guy who arguably participated in High Treason against the United States ends up as a symbolic figurehead of the NRA.
