    Finally, someone has explained it so that I too understand.....


    - The Silent generation,people born before 1946..

    - The Baby Boomers, people born between 1946 and 1964.
    - Generation X, people born between 1965 and 1983.

    - Generation Y
    , people born between 1984 and 2002.


    Why do we call the last one generation Y? I did not know, but a caricaturist explains it eloquently below...I learned something new!

    For what it's worth, the original definition for "Generation X" was born between 1960 and 1980. Currently available records may not reflect that, that's exactly what it meant by those who coined and used the term in the early 1990s. At that time, Gen-Xers were also known as "slackers."

    Back then the definition had overlap with the "baby boomers" tail end.

    Things change over time, though.
