I've lived in this house for 6+ years with a "partially" finished basement....meaning framed walls with poorly hung (but totally unfinished) drywall in some places. We actually removed the drywall in the media room. I would say live with the house a little before deciding on major changes. Deck work was an early job when we moved in. the deck itself was sound, but the railing was made by a brain-damaged primate of some sort.

Good advice. This spring will be my 6th year in this house. Because I do virtually all the work myself, primarily on weekends, the pace is slow enough for use to decide what to do while still moving the ball forward.

To date, with the entirety of the inside complete and the house outside done, the only change we made was that we changed the color of the front door.

When I did my basement it was an 80's panel job that leaked water. A couple summers before tackling the basement, I rented an excavator and dug the walls down to the footers and installed a french drain and 3 levels of waterproofing to the exterior walls. I even painted that drylok crap on the inside just for ****s and grins.

Then 2" foamboard, framed out the walls and put 3 1/2" insulation in the cavities.

We don't have to run our dehumidifier anymore with rare exception. Temp stays at 70 year round with the HVAC vents closed. Cool in the summer, warm in the winter. We like it.

I do the same thing in the winter as I do the rest of the year, the main difference is I have to heat the garage up first. I never run out of things to make in what little spare time I have.

I tried my hand at knife making this spring. I was terrible, but what do you expect with your first try at anything?
I've been modeling DnD terrain lately. I need to find another group to play with so maybe I'll use it since day.

    Great work!

A guy I went to high school with is a pretty well-respected bladesmith in Indiana. This kind of work is impressive.
