When you get conscripted into the ROK Army (Republic of Korea Army, the South guys) you can divert into the KATUSA program. Korean Augmentation to the US Army. You serve with US Army units instead of ROK Army. Typically, you're from a weathy family or politically connected, or both. If you're in this, and F up, you get get sent to te ROK army. You do NOT want to do this.

This will probably also make it easier for those trying to enact those corporate goals to get those under their command to shoot Americans to make it happen.

    So, Shadow Run.

Just a thought, but the people shielding their children and keeping good recruits out have zero right to bitch. Not about the resulting military and not about taking the nation for granted. If not you who?

Honestly, it's too late to turn the tide. Anyone of value enlisting or commissioning now is so far under the wave that they will be swept beneath the current and spit on the shore with a short term of service and maybe evaluations or a discharge that they don't want to show anyome.

    Near the big river.
While I agree it may be a mess in some respects right now, I hardly believe it is the hopeless/lost cause some make it out to be.

Anyone remember the 60's? We survived Johnson and Tricky Dick, We survived all the Clinton and Obama years. Yes there are kinky things being done now but the Military is still viable. Maybe not as viable as we would like but still effective.

Having dealt with potential military enlistment aged kids for awhile in high school I can tell you they are the same as we were at that age. In many ways we were a mess, so are they. But they are by far headed to be good adults.

It is not as bad as being portrayed by some in this thread.

Herbert Norman Schwarzkopf Jr., George S. Patton and other great military leaders must be rolling over in their graves!
Read some books on Schwarzkopf. Very impressive person, well prepared for his battles years before they happened.

If a person believed they were sending their child into a situation of endless wars, to be indoctrinated with spirit of the age wokeism, they would be a sorry parent if they did not guide their child accordingly. Starving the beast by not giving it food for fodder seems like a legitimate response.

    .
Any mention of the percentage of 17-20 year olds are giant pussies and the fact some 1/4 to 1/3 report mental illness?

My son is enlisting. Per his recruiter, the number one reason potential recruits are turned away is NOT:
    1) Obesity (which was my guess)
    2) Drug use
    3) Criminal background

It's: History of anxiety meds. I suspect the constant bombardment of doom porn and always being connected has lead to a lot of it. Talking to my son and his (admittedly dorky) friends, they don't care about the things us middle aged vets care about. Teen brains are still teen brains. They just want to know they can still get on social media and be dumbasses without being outcasts.

It has surprised me over recent years how many people are on these things, the gardener's sister even has her dog on them. Drug companies must make this stuff by the rail car load just to be keeping up with the demand.

I wonder if it's the same in other parts of the world?

Well, that's certainly one way to raise a generation of anxious pussies. Tell them they lost already, it's too hard, no need to try. They are powerless, just lay back and let it happen. Then pretend we're on the verge of civil war when any hint of hard work or sacrifice is just too much bother. Utter ******** and the mindset of those that deserve to lose.

I have heard about the lack of recruitment for the military. I have, like everyone else, have seen companies begging for new hires, which often fall on deaf ears. There will always be young people wanting to test themselves and be part of something bigger than themselves. With advances in technology, there is a possibility that our new military will need fewer warm bodies in the future and may be able to deal with a smaller force of "grunts". As long as the world has plenty of despots and tyrants, there will be some folks who will voluntarily stand up to take them down. If there aren't enough, there is always the draft. It seems that the majority of young folks, since WWII, haven't been all that keen about military service. Communism isn't considered all that bad and many prefer it to our form of government. Although it isn't talked about, many young people are cowards. Now they have euphemisms for such harsh words. In the corporate world, there will always be young people who must or feel the need to support themselves financially and those who prefer to live in their parents' basements. Things are really screwed up, but they've always been. Somehow the USA has always survived.

What’s the surprise? Broken Marriages, Dismantled Standards, Bypassed Morals, Forgotten work ethics, Consequentless Accountability, Selfishness, Broken Promises, Careless Bad Credit and Ignorant Voters are the norm today. And then there are the offspring.

Is it any wonder our kids are Fxxxed Up today?

A somewhat long observation from Ayn Rand's "Capitalism, the Unknown Ideal", on military service:

A volunteer army is the only proper, moral--and practical--way to defend a free country. Should a man volunteer to fight, if his country is attacked? Yes--if he values his own rights and freedom. A free (or even semi-free) country has never lacked volunteers in the face of foreign aggression. Many military authorities have testified that a volunteer army--an army of men who know what they are fighting for and why--is the best, most effective army, and that a drafted one is the least effective.

It is often asked: "But what if a country cannot find a sufficient number of volunteers?" Even so, this would not give the rest of the population a right to the lives of the country's young men. But, in fact, the lack of volunteers occurs for one of two reasons:

    (1) If a country is demoralized by a corrupt, authoritarian government, its citizens will not volunteer to defend it. But neither will they fight for long, if drafted. For example, observe the literal disintegration of the Czarist Russian army in World War I.

    (2) If a country's government undertakes to fight a war for some reason other than self-defense, for a reason which the citizens neither share nor understand, it will not find many volunteers. Thus a volunteer army is one of the best protectors of peace, not only against foreign aggression, but also against any warlike ideologies or projects on the part of a country's own government.

    *****
For a "corrupt, authoritarian government", call:

    1-202-DONKEYS

Why would anyone want to fight under the command of Austin or Milley, for the benefit of Soros or whomever else is pulling Brandon's marionette strings???

Which branch did he choose? When we spoke on this a while back he had it narrowed down to two very different paths.
