Today, A woman and a child come into the place where I'm standing guard, the child is obviously hiding behind his mother. She explains that the child is scared of police officers because of the TV show COPS. I nod in agreement that some can be scary. They proceed to talk to the owner as they had planned, on the way back to the door where I'm standing I offer the child a candy cane from a table. This once timid child approches me with a huge smile on his face and takes the candy. He then, in the sweetest little voice I've ever heard says "thank you mister"

That ladies and gentlemen is why I do what I do

    It's not for the glory
    It's not for the money
It's not for the "police discount"
Because at the end of the day ... There is none

We do it for the future of our community. That bright smiling future.

    * while I can not say I am full fledged law enfocement I feel like I am representing them and hope to be able to become one. For now I work as an armed security guard. But unless you really look at the uniform closely you can't tell

Which mall do you work at?

Also, I don't think you have to be a cop to give a candy cane to a kid.

    Be careful out there.

Not sure if this is a jab or not.

    Not a mall ninja

    More of a rent-a-cop

For all the kid (and some adults) know I am a cop, the only way could tell the difference is company name instead of agency name and I don't carry a tazer

I've had a dozen different kids ask me if I was a cop when they noticed my EDC. Kids notice more quickly because they pay more attention than most adults, and they are at eye-level with my belt.

The part that confusdes me is, I tend to more closely resemble Charlie Manson, or Usama Bin Laden (before his demise), that the typical cop on the beat.

    Maybe they think I'm under-cover?

You've forgoten the part where I am not claiming to be some bad ass mall ninja. Because of my job I wear a uniform that is made to look like police. I was pressented with a chance to make a tiny differnce in a child's life. My point is to share this experience and to inform that real LEO and some rent-a+cops don't do iour jobs for us

Now tell me how is my posting like his?

I'm sorry. I thought you were putting us on.

It was just soooo mellow dramatic and squishy.

Don't mind me. Please continue - make that difference in a child's life.

    Go on hero.

If that child's mother is a member here, there's about a 35% chance you'll get a call from your supervisor tomorrow to answer a complaint about you attempting to seduce a child while on the job.

I hope to God you don't have rank or your name or anything like that on your uniform, might look too "military" for some.
