At that price it would have been worth taking a risk on it.
I own an RIA Ultra FS 10mm 1911. It's been perfect. I'm using Wilson combat magazines the RIA magazine I've not had any problems with aa well.

    RIA has excellent customer service.
So it's not really a risk imo.

    Edit:
I forgot about the thumb safety was really loose and I sent it to RIA out to Utah. They had it back to me in 2 weeks iirc. They had to fit another thumb safety.
Other than that it's been good.

Had a bad experience with them and their Baby Rock but then again that really was not a1911. Firing pin broke on 1st shot.

Did they send you a replacement?
Purchased it at a lgs that had a quasi gunsmith that replaced the firing pin two over 6 weeks this was years before the current nonsense to fix it, and he scratched the frame in the process. Then wanted me to pay for him to restore the damaged finish.

Guessing it’s ok it has not been out of the safe since I got it back.

Out of the box and with your budget DW is going to be hard to beat. C2/P will serve you well also. 2 of my three main EDC's are comped C2 and DW Valkyrie CCO both in 9mm. I did mill the Valkyrie for RDS which would still be in your budget.

Agreed with several others who have already posted about DW 1911s in 9mm and seriously think you can end your search here! No need for chasing upgrades as they are perfect (in my experience) right out of the box, unless you want to swap grips to your taste. I currently have an ECO, Vigil Commander, Valor Commander, and Specialist 5" in 9mm. The Vigil is probably the most practical with an alloy frame. The ECO also has an alloy frame, and for an officer's model it is pleasant to shoot, easy to shoot well and conceals beautifully. DW discontinued the ECO a year (or two?) ago, but they can still be found if you're patient.

The Valor and Specialist being all-steel are heavier and make 9mm feel like a squirt gun, but won't carry as well, and IMO are a little overkill for 9mm. I think all-steel models shine better in 45 ACP.

Got mine at $400. Wanted a range gun in 1911 without the kick of my Star aluminum frame .45acp. Looks like something you'd expect to come out of a crate from WWII. Shoots great and after some cool hand grips (ivory and rosewood) and a quick polish of the slide with WD40 and 1500 grit paper it looks great. Very happy with this purchase.

    OP,

Its over an hour drive from where you are but a trip to Indiana Gun Club would be worth it. They usually have a pretty vast selection of 1911's. Their inventory pages lists 1911's from $600 up to your $2500 and past that. Virtually everything that has been recommended to you is listed in their inventory that is currently online. I think they updated the website in the last week as well.

I use a Ruger lightweight commander. Put thin line VZ grips on and a Wilson magwell. Put at least 1,500 rounds through it no problems at all. Also put 550 rounds without cleaning it. Did just fine.
