What is the best Handgun/Rifle combo and why is it the 1911/AR15?

I'd go with the cowboy combo:
Marlin 1894c and S&W 686 plus - both in .357

Pretty much the concept my mind went towards... except I would use use the Winchester 94AE 'Trapper' model and a Ruger GP100 4" both in .357 magnum...and because one can also shoot .38 special through both of them!

My go to inside my house. If something goes bump in the night, that flashlight beam with the red dot in the middle and Federal flight control wad is my peace of mind.

It was worth the price of admission. The RMR is a recent addition and you can see the big dot through the RMR. They do not however co-witness. Regardless you do have an extra point of reference in case the RMR washes out. The duel illuminated model does work well if you are in a dark room looking out into the light and dot completely disappears when you turn on the weapon light.
