A very dear friend of mine gave me the holster he wore as an MP during the Vietnam conflict. It seems to be in good shape but the leather is drying and starting to crack in some areas. Should I attempt to clean and oil this piece of history or leave it alone. I know sometimes collectibles should not be altered in any way as far as "patina" goes. I feel honored that he gave it to me and would like to preserve this beatiful piece of history in an honorable and proper way. It is for a 1911 and seems snug for my Colts in this frame.

use the lexol cleaner followed by the conditioner it will put the required moisture back in the leather and not be greasy when it is over. can get it at any farm or tack store. one is in an orange bottle the other in a brown one.
