Pornhub gets angry and blocks everyone from Texas over being asked to verify the age of their users before allowing them to view adult content.

So we're supposed to believe these people aren't evil, when they're throwing a tantrum over being asked not to show porn to children?

Yes, believe it. It probably makes you racist for posting that.

Are you volunteering to send your driver's license to the porn site?

Substitute "sell guns" for "show porn", and tell me if you support universal background checks and a national gun registry?

I don't mean to sound snarky, it just looks like they're talking about the same kind of "common sense" rules that won't solve a problem but will infringe on legal (if off-putting) rights.

There once was a time in this great nation when you could do exactly that, and have absolutely no fear of it being stolen.
When I was a kid living in rural southwest Michigan, we did exactly that. Then one night in about '82 or '83, a drunk guy crashed his car down the road from us, wandered onto our property an drove away in our '75 Bel Air, sideswiping both sides on trees on his way out. No more keys in cars after that.

'Course, I still never lock my truck when parked at home.

I'm not sure I get where you're coming from.

Universal background checks and gun registries? This isn't a law saying that p*rn websites have to do background checks or build a registry, it's a requirement that their users have to prove they're not a minor. I'd say that's a perfectly reasonable requirement. The correct analogy isn't being okay with universal background checks, a more apt analogy would be saying that gun dealers can't sell guns to minors. Which, unless I'm highly mistaken, is already the case.

It's possible that I'm wrong, but I had thought that the age verification systems that were employed in countries like the UK amounted to a requirement for users to purchase or sign up for a certification process, and that it was something that was easily gotten around by minors.

If I'm wrong, apologies to Mr. Tombs.
