Ticks in February ? This is crazy. I may be getting old and forgetful, but it seems to me like ticks were not very common when I was a kid. Now they seem to be out in force everywhere.

Ticks are one of the reasons I try to do my fence row clearing in the winter. I was out working a bit today. So far, so good.

A lot of the ones we have been getting on us the last few years are TINY! Like so tiny, I don’t even know how you would find one on someone with a full head of thick hair, not me anymore. I don’t remember these tiny ticks years ago.

Thanks for the update! I was hoping to keep the beard until the weather breaks since I haven't been in the woods much. Looks like its coming off soon because I have to head into the woods for brush clearing! I figured they would be deep hibernating/dead with the freeze. The 50 plus degree temps have awakened the insects!

IIRC I said the same thing a few years ago. When I was a kid might get a few over the course of a summer, now a person can barely walk across the yard without picking up a couple.

Southern Indiana has nests of "seed ticks" now. These are the lone star tick. I walked through them last year in Brown county and had several hundred bites. Way worse than chiggers and the risk of alpha gal. Use repellent!!
