I bought a 98 Mauser action with a 1903 barrel threaded into it. Had AllenM remove the barrel(he did a great job), I tried to thread a barrel with 98 Mauser threads and they wouldn't work, I bought another action to use, but my question, could a 98 Mauser action be threaded to the 1903 threads or was it just some weird thread pitch. I was going to sell the barrel, but don't want someone to buy it and not be able to use it.

    Mauser 98 large ring thread:
1.10 inches diameter 12 v threads per inch
    Springfield 1903 thread:
1.040 inches diameter 10 square threads per inch.
The Springfield barrel fitted to the Mauser you have was turned back and threaded to fit the Mauser receiver.
There is no practical way to thread the Mauser receiver for the 1903 barrel thread.
The 98 Mauser was produced by many contractors and there is a great deal of variance in the thread tolerance.
98 Mauser barrel threads are a 55 degree v thread, many barrelmakers of sporting Mauser barrels use a 60 degree v thread and they do not always turn in easily and require fitting by a gunsmith.
Hope you find this info useful.
