    Under an oppressive government
I am nearing retirement and was checking into moving to another country with warmer weather and a lower cost of living. However, I can not find another country that allows the private ownership of firearms. I guess I'll stay here and help support our 2A. Does anyone know of any country that allows the private ownership of firearms ?

"Firearm legislation and policy vary greatly around the world. For example, some countries such as South Korea, China, the United Kingdom or Germany, have strict limits on gun possession by private citizens while others, such as Yemen, Switzerland and United States, allow for relatively greater access."

Yemen is not a place I would like to live and Switzerland is too cold, looking for warmer weather.

Stay n the USA and move to Mississippi.:):

Argentina might be the best bet in South America. Most Central/South American countries allow firearms ownership, its just very restrictive. Lots of registries, licenses, psych exams, caliber restrictions, etc... Say whatcha want about the state of gun laws in the US today, but we still have it better than most.:dunno:

One thing to consider is when you immigrate to another country, you are not a citizen at the outset. It might take years. In the meantime, the restrictions on immigrants owning firearms may be more stringent than those of citizens.

I don't want to sound harsh or judgmental but OP, have you simply considered moving to another, warmer state? I haven't researched it but I don't understand the allure of moving to another country.

I agree with this. Some other countries may seem romantic and from the outside looking in, attractive places to move to. But in most cases the really great countries to live in are going to have a high cost of living and quite possibly restrictive firearms laws.

Low cost of living often results in subpar medical treatment, lessor infrastructure, poorer food/water supplies, etc.

There are a few great places in this country that one could retire to and have it all. Decent cost of living, good medical care, English speaking people and on an on.

Look at TN. Nice climate, reasonable cost of living, decent people who still have a little bit of common sense.

You may have to move to a Nordic state.

To be perfectly honest, I believe communism/socialism/fascism/authoritarianism has spread across the globe, and we are falling into it because the "global community" wants us to conform. Everything our forefathers died for to stop the spread of communism has failed at this point, and we are being crushed from both the inside and out. They have infiltrated the highest levels of government (presidency), and absolutely control what we call the Democrat party. That's how I feel, and I believe anyone that does not feel similar has no grasp on history or reality.

After the US collapses, the history books will be written saying, "The Russians eventually won the Cold War with the help of China."

Indiana is one of the best places in the world for firearm ownership. If you must move to warmer weather, I would say Georgia. Beautiful, rather easy to obtain as many firearms as you want, warm weather towards the southern end, and decent people.

Just move to South Dakota. Friendly people, great gun laws and no State income tax. I sometimes wonder why I moved back to Indiana. Yes it is cold in the winter but the humidity is a lot lower. When it is really cold out just stay home. Sometimes you don't have an option because I have seen the doors frozen shut more then once.

Isn't it amazing how RARE and UNIQUE the rights we currently enjoy in the United States are?

This, of course, is why Obama and other "progressives" hate the 2nd Amendment so much. It's INCOMPATIBLE with their vision of a "United Nations of the World" where socialism reigns supreme over the globe.

My son lives in ND. He loves it! Yes, it gets cold, but you dress for it and stay indoors when it gets really cold. You acclimatize. 20 degrees is balmy in the winter there.:) He has been there going on two years and he runs around in a light jacket until it gets in the the single digits.

I am wanting to make one more move to a place I can retire from someday. I am looking at TN and western MI so two different climate zones for sure.

I feel for you. We are thinking about spending a significant amount of our retirement in the Philippines and their gun laws suck. If you're a an ordinary type of guy the local police don't hassle you about one at home but carrying and going out to the range are pretty much out the door.

I hear South Texas stays pretty warm all year long. I know its not the lower cost of living of some countries but I'm willing to bet there are small towns scattered all around which would be significantly less than Cities. I have a friend whose father spends his late fall, winter and early spring in Texas near the Mexican border. He claims his Dad, retired on a fixed SS income, lives on a fractional cost of living there. I guess he has a trailer or prefab type home in a small community where he can walk or bicycle most places like the drug store, grocery, bank, church, doctor office, etc. I've travelled to the Austin area in the winter and it is pretty darn tolerable compared to Indiana in the winter. Just a thought on keeping US citizenship, keeping your gun ownership if you choose and staying warm in the winter.

Why does Texas "suck" in your opinion? The cities there are no different than any other US cities but the countryside is spectacular in places. I don't believe all Texans are like the actors on "Dallas" or emulate Jerry Jones, the rich jerk Dallas Cowboys owner. I have some very good friends from Texas and they are as good Americans as any from my perspective.
