Just reporting what I've seen on my own homestead my friend. Whenever the coating gets thin, they come back: and it takes less time than you think. Our climate is unfortunately very supportive of these critters so it takes very little opening for them to dig in again. Less than 2 year in my experience.

Not afraid of work... can I just fill the holes they’ve already drilled? I’m sure this was sealed at some point, but it’s pretty old.

Caulk and paint are your friends. It just needs to be done more often than any of us like. Such is life.

To be honest I am not sure how thin the paint was.

Carpenter bees attacking the ceiling of my covered porch. Any tips?

Go on the offensive. We get them every year. Find the holes. Go back at night and put the juice to them. Then go back and fill them up.

I have a 1X6 that I shaped a handle on. They play to my back hand and I nail them

I have a dog that will catch them if they get close enough...

The males don't sting they bite only the females have stingers and they aren't seen often.

Males don't even have a stinger. Females do but it's rare they sting. Not saying it can't happen but it's unlikely
