The proof mark on the grip is in very nice shape, but the cartouche on the left side of the stock is almost faded to the point of not being able to see it. Under the right light I can still make out the H and the S but the box and cannons appear to be gone. The trigger is incredible for an 82 year old gun. Beyond that I'm still working on breaking down the target card that came with the gun. Very excited to add this to the collection.

Was that direct from the CMP or did you find that elsewhere?

I was looking at getting one of the rebuilt ones that the CMP converted to .308. But last I heard, they were not selling any Garands anymore.

In addition: what is the process now days? I recall there being steps (maybe even a class) necessary to order one from the CMP.

    Your LTCH counts as

    "MARKSMANSHIP OR OTHER FIREARMS-RELATED ACTIVITY"

As for an CMP affiliated organization, just join the Garand Collectors Assocation. $25 per year and you get a magazine each month. They will also notify the CMP when you join. Easy-peasy.
