    So thread hijack.

I had one of those expandable child gate things between the kitchen and a pantry room/closet alcove. Free-range dry cat food on the alcove side, yellow lab on the kitchen side. Originally the cats (but not the dog) just jumped over it to get their food, but a couple of them were getting older and creakier, a physical state that I have much empathy for, so I cut a 6” x 4” hole thru the plastic mesh for the cats.

One day I hear this big crash, high-pitched yelping, and things being smashed in the kitchen. I run in there looking for home invaders and Chester has somehow forced his entire head AND one front leg thru that little opening. That’s how far he made it before he got stuck, and then tried to back out, yanking the gate out of its position. He’s running around the kitchen on three legs in pure panic sounding like he’s being eaten by a bear and wildly swinging his head around to shake off the bear… er, gate. I grabbed him and calmed him down a little bit, got my knife out and finished destroying the gate to get him loose. 9C9AD5C1-C513-4312-B88C-900C0E0D61D3.jpeg
