    Theoretically. It would have taken 3 1962 quarters to buy a pound of bacon in 1962, but closer to 1.5 1962 quarters in 2011. Of course, if you actually went to a modern grocery store, they would ask you for 19 quarters, thank you very much.

    Given today's melt prices, a 1962 quarter is worth about $3.61, so does that mean the price of bacon actually went down if you are using 1962 quarters?

    Yes, it does.
    The lowest price for gasoline, ever, was in 1932 when it was $0.17 per gallon. You could buy it with 2 dimes and get 3 pennies change.
    Based on the value of silver in those two dimes, gasoline, today, would be about $6.17 per gallon.
