Wife n I coming home from church this morning. Our little town rolls up the sidewalks at noon Fri. We pass a **** load of cars on Main St. on our way home.

Curious as to what happened, (we thought a fire) the wife starts searching FB, something I know nothing about.

So it appears there is one of those places where you take your w-forms and they do your taxes for you. In her search she reads about an older couple that lives on Soc. Sec. That’s all of their income. They owe the .gov 6800.00 and they have no way to pay. They have worked all their life, their small house in town is paid for. But now the .gov says they must pay money they can’t possibly pay. I’m so mad I can’t think.

The ****** gov won’t be satisfied until the Fed. Res. owns everything.

Guess I just had to rant, hoping this is cathartic in some way. ****** govt. And it‘s not only Biden it’s all of those SOB’s

Yeah. After running carefully tuned withholding for 10 years and paying a few hundred every year I was a happy man. I was getting my money without giving .gov too much. Until this year.

Oldest turned 17 last fall. Which means he went from a 2,000 tax credit to $500. Didnt see that coming. I expected it to hit this year when he turned 18.

So I get to pay them $1300 this year. Lovely.

Sounds like they failed to have any withholdings...withheld. Social Security is not tax free income.
I’m on SS I’m aware of the implications, I’m just as sure these folks, older than me (74) are also. After all they’ve been doing this for a while. I’m guessing something has changed in the tax laws for folks that work for wages.

But that’s not my point. To be exact, when you’ve worked your whole life to make a gain, the **** gov shouldn’t be able to just take it away from you. I can only surmise that’s what will happen to these folks if they can’t pay their tax bill.

The gov and banking system has to have a rolling system to keep themselves/itself rolling along. They (all of them) are doing it on the backs of not only those of us still breathing but at least 4 generations into our future. THATS WRONG!!!!

    I don’t quote @BigRed often, but ****, the *** **** govt. And the *** **** Fed. Res.

I am with you there, few have greater distaste for the tax system than I. Couple fun examples:

My small company was selected by the State of Indiana for a random audit of our IN tax payments, payroll, unemployment workers comp, etc. last year. They sent a list of like 20 items they wanted to see, 1 item alone being a complete payroll history for each employee, and they wanted all that info for the past five years. I sent this to my accountant who did a good job handling it. several months later the random audit was complete with a hearty "you did everything right" from the state. The bill from the accountant was just under $3,000.

As appraisers we go to properties to view them, then do 99% of the work in our office. Many counties in Kentucky require you to pay payroll tax on work done there. So even if I say drive to Muhlenberg County and spend an hour looking at something, then spend a week working on it in Evansville, I owe them the tax on whatever the earnings were for that hour. In total I signed seven tax returns for various counties in the Bluegrass State, one of which got a check for $7.00 dollars. Again paying the accountants more in fees to calculate that.

This is interesting. for the past two years, I have owed no federal tax while on Social Security.

The state on the other hand…
If i’m understanding what I’m reading you can make it a percentage of income or you can elect a set number of dollars. Myself I’m going to look further for my own piece of mind. Probably call the SS office Monday.

Yep, that sucks! While I’m sure INGO has little concern for professional sports figures if one is a pro bowler they must have their accountant prepare a tax return for EVERY state and for most counties they bowl in every year. Even in the same state they must pay county tax in every county they “work” in.

Obviously the pro football and basketball players get nailed on this. Pro teams in no state income tax states get an advantage over high tax states for players since at least half their games are at zero income tax…

Something has to change. it seems like taxes on some People keep getting worse and worse while the government keeps giving away more and more to people that do not contribute anything to our society.
Something will change. You will see more and more of this happening. The .gov is out to take everything you (we) have and give it to everyone that doesn't deserve anything.
This is one way they are implementing socialism.

You will live in the worlds largest "company town", and like it...

"...the company town was often an economically viable ploy to attract and retain workers. Additionally, for-profit shops within company towns were usually owned by the company, which were unavoidable to its isolated workers, thus resulting in a monopoly for the owners."

My Mother's side of the family came from a Kentucky coal mine company town. She spoke of the stories of her Father who began work in the mine at 9 when his Father was killed. Those stories spoke of how the mine's owner ensured the workers could not leave, by using the company town's rent and stores to ensure they were either in debt, or could not save enough to escape.

If we the citizens of this Nation do not change the trajectory we are on, this will be our children's future.

Something is not right. There must be more to that story. Personally I do not trust those little stores to do tax returns; especially is my only income is SS.

Many people have no idea who pays what taxes as evidenced by this poll.

“The top 1% of earners account for 42% of federal income taxes paid, however, nearly half of Americans thought they contribute less than 12%.”

“Here’s how the numbers break down:”

    • 22% guessed the wealthy accounted for 1%.
    • 25% guessed the wealthy accounted for 12%.
    • 22% guessed the wealthy accounted for 42%.
    • 12% guessed the wealthy accounted for 64%.
    • 19% said they were not sure.
“According to the poll, one-third of Democrats thought the top 1% pay only 1% of all income taxes. Approximately 77% of Democrats believe the wealthy aren’t paying their fair share and they aren’t alone in wanting the rich to pay more.”

Just an addendum, I don’t believe most people know or have a clue where most Federal Tax dollars come from. We as citizens pay a tax of some kind on virtually every single thing used for daily life. Some going one place, state, local, federal. Some going to others. One of my peeves is the traffic offenders telling the traffic cop “my taxes pay your salary “ when they and there parents and grandparents have lived in subsidized rental housing there whole life. Which tax dollars are they referring to? They don’t have a clue.

Another myth ignores that those in the top 1% of tax filers are often one time deals and over half are not there ten years later.

The same is true of the bottom also, only real losers do not move up in their lives, most usually rise several levels…
