Is written serial numbers confirmation enough or is pictures including serial numbers better. I have not done either yet but will as soon as I get home. I would like to thank all INGO members as I new owner I have learned much from you.

Written would be enough, but I would probably say having a few pics is worthwhile as well because sometimes it's just too easy to mistake one character in the serial number for another. Case in point - I have the paperwork for my Beretta purchase and the serial number was written by the salesperson on the receipt. However, what I thought was a 7 was actually a Z. If I used only the receipt for proof of the number I'd be screwed. However, with a picture of the Beretta's SN I also have backup documentation.

*mbills2223 goes to his closet to update his serial number list*

But seriously, I had this experience with a bicycle that was stolen from me. When I went to the police headquarters, they said that even if they recovered it, I wouldn't get it back without a serial number. Luckily I saw it posted on craigslist, so I got that bad boy back :):

Having both the serial numbers and the pics are great-- that spreadsheet in the cloud if gregkl's is fantastic. First thing you'll need to recover the property at the LEA is identification. greg can id from a smart-phone-- how cool is that!

the AK is a bit uncommon. might turn up.

But, without a serial number, who's to say it's his gun. If he has no serial numbers recorded, how can they prove anything is his. Converted Saigas are not all that uncommon and unless he has some way to identify the gun, he might as well forget them. There is no way any police department will call him and say they have an AK that looks like what he was describing, so maybe they should let him have it.
