SOLD $400
S&W 422 6"
- 22LR Single-Action semiauto pistol.
- SW 10 rd mags x2
- threaded barrel with protective barrel nut
- generic black hardbox
Previous owner from INGO had this 422 as a safe queen & looks the part.
I was so glad to get this SW 422 6" barrel in such great condition after previously owning a 4" barrel that I really liked.
But, I found a 422 SS variant, a 2206, 6" with rear adjustable sights.
A true bucket list gun & member Zackcz found it a gave me a heads-up.
I had sold this same 422 earlier to Zackcz this year to help pay for the
SW 2206, but was able to later buy it back again.
He was the one who put me onto this SW model since he knew I loved the older SW .22LR models.
I have enjoyed owning 3 of the SW 422 (or variants) this year.
I had also picked up a 3" variant (2214), which is delightfully accurate for a
3" barrel.
However, I have lately indulged on "a few" older & more expensive .22LR handguns on my bucket list this summer in my waning & twilight years of the hobby.
I decided to part with this gem (again), since I have the 2206 Stainless Steel model to comfort me.
The SW 422 has been affectionally referred to as the "poor man's SW 41."
These are nice shooting guns made for 10 yrs. from 1987-1996.
I sold one to a member here years ago that had the rare adjustable rear sights that he uses in competition.
This 422 has a light (23.5 oz) & slender (1.125") feel.
Good accuracy (see target below) for a non-optic & proven reliable in the five I have owned.
My records indicate I have been to the range 6 times & put 520 rounds through it during both times of owning it this year.
I've so many other 22LR distractions or I would have been to the range more with it.
In fact, I'm hoping to get back to the range with it one last time before it sells!
I used 4 brands of ammo through it:
- CCI SV
- Federal AutoMatch
- Federal Value Pack 36 grain HP
- Armscor.
I painted red-over-white fluorescent gun paint on the ramped front sight, easily removed if you prefer black.
Cleaned & lubed with Ballistol & Lucas Gun Oil.
I have great confidence in this gun, as with my other 422 variants.
I've had several older SW .22LR handguns & never been disappointed.
Comments by Smith & Wesson on the unique design features of the 422:
- barrel is non-moving, fixed to the frame
- low bore axis for reduced muzzle jump with barrel residing in the frame just above the trigger guard (most unique feature)
- slide, guide rod & recoil spring ride above the barrel
- barrel threaded from the factory, fitted with protective "barrel nut."
Note: 1/2"- 28 threaded adaptor can be bought to replace the barrel nut and allows attachment of suppressors with 1/2"- 28 thread.
This design makes this pistol line up perfectly for use with a suppressor with an aftermarket adapter since the sights can still be utilized.
Easy-to-reach frame-mounted thumb safety and slide stop, which serve as the pistol’s safety mechanisms.
Uses same mags as the classic S&W Model 41.
Specs:
- Matte blue finish
- Trigger: Single-action with a pull action having a nice break with a 3-4# pull weight & quick trigger reset
- Action: blowback-operated semi-auto
- threaded barrel
- barrel nut
- aluminum frame
- slide is blue carbon steel
- frame mounted thumb safety
- Sights: Fixed with Dovetail Rear Sight & Ramped Front Sight
