Some Starbucks customers are threatening to boycott the coffee giant after its CEO took a stand against President Donald Trump's executive order barring immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the US.
On Sunday, Starbucks announced it planned to hire 10,000 refugees worldwide in the next five years.
"We are living in an unprecedented time, one in which we are witness to the conscience of our country, and the promise of the American Dream, being called into question," CEO Howard Schultz wrote in a letter to Starbucks employees about the plan.
While many customers were immediately supportive of Starbucks' actions on social media, others threatened to boycott after the letter's release.
"Upon hearing about your decision to hire 10000 refugees instead of Americans I will no longer spend any money at Starbucks," one such Facebook user wrote on Starbucks' page.

This is tough, I like Starbucks, Oh well...

    Starbucks is well-marketed garbage.

I'm sure there are lazy Mexicans. But come with me the next time I go to my dairy customer. (You do NOT want to know where your milk comes from.) The Mexicans there work from way before dawn to after dark, nonstop. The conditions are awful, and the pay is next to nothing. Because they are illegal, they can't get housing, so the farmer provides it. Most of you would prefer to sleep on the ground than in these houses. I would never say that they got here the right way, and I believe they should leave and come back in the right way. But on average, they will work the average American into the ground, do it under worse circumstances, and be happier about it than a bank exec as he drives home in his Lexus.

Well, I wouldn't assume that every Hispanic looking person in a restaurant is illegal, nor would i assume they are unclean.

My earlier comment was only based upon the fact that the kitchens of, it seems, the overwhelming # of restaurants of every kind are dominated by Mexican immigrants.

...and I have no complaints in that regard.
Indeed, people assume too much. They see a Hispanic worker and assume ILLEGAL. Hell, they see a Hispanic person and assume Mexican. I find it hard to visually identify a Mexican from other Central and South Americans. Assumptions are easy to make.

I've met a number of Guatemalans in restaurants, but otherwise it's usually Mexicans.

Often folks are legal, but when a business gets hit by ICE multiple times, or you notice certain precautions taken by the immigrant or employer, or every freakin person in the reataurant is named Juan Mendoza, you start to get the idea that things aren't on the up and up.

Now diners in New York, Minneapolis, Detroit, Boston, Oakland and Ann Arbor may encounter a sign in their local bistro that reads, "Sanctuary Restaurant: A place at the table for everyone." Hhhmm, what do these cities all have in common? Run by libs? Circling the drain in several cases?

While we're on the subject of restaurants and illegal immigrants,
it doesn't make sense to me to have people handling my food that snuck into this country from places that have poor sanitary standards, parasite infestations, and illnesses. etc, that are not common to this country, who have not in ANY way had their health checked before being allowed to work in a restaurant kitchen.

    Kentucky? :dunno:

Some of my favorite restaurants are... not "spick and span" . I'd much rather east there and get great food, albeit with a very minor risk, than eat at Crapplebees and get a mediocre meal.

Besides, I personally fear anti-vaxxers more than any immigrant when it comes to communicable diseases.

Yeah, I don't get it either.

INGO got their collective knickers in a bunch over a restaurant refusing service not that long ago, and now we're pissed that a restaurant is not refusing service.

Read the piece...no one got turned away...the point of the piece is that some restaurants are seeking to protect illegals, and yes, that angers many of us.

I have seen the same things just not on the farm.
And no, most folks tender sensibility's would be deeply dented with a trip to the dairy farm or the packing house.

Just so everyone is clear, you can sanitize yourself out of some good food and into a pansy immune system.

This is true. But when you don't know if the chocolate sprinkles are mouse poop or not, you tend to start drawing a line somewhere in there. And yes, sprinkles aren't really good food.

    No doubt.
I know these places hire illegals, as I've seen it.

But I still feel safer if in the last step before I eat it, my food is cooked by somebody that isn't going to pass some 3rd world thing on to me.
This, because the heat has a good chance of killing it.

    Near the big river.
I spent 9 years in the central valley of California. Saw a lot of Hispanic farm workers. They did work very hard and I never had a bit of trouble with them. Actually my interactions over the years was good. Several places if I was servicing their equipment at lunch time I was invited to share their lunch, excellent food by the way.

However a stated company policy to offer sanctuary to illegal immigrants in violation of the law seems to be something else.

I cannot fault a person for bettering their position in life. I can fault a company that flaunts their violation of federal laws.

Wow. You are very sure of yourself arent you.
Not sure what your life experiences are but you need to come up around here and have a look at what is actually going on.
    It is not an illusion.
Of course there is a percentage of any group culture that fits your opinion.

I'm absolutely positive. I've worked around, or instead of, the turds for over 25 years.
You apparently live in a different world or are one of those sympathetic people that believe they make this country better.
You need to come up HERE and you will understand. Nothing is done about their work ethic, because they run to La Casa and end up
with a management position, along with a huge pay increase.
Yes, this IS real world. There are several companies locally that refuse to hire them for anything other than cleaning and landscape maintenance, and in most cases, it's only one or two to avoid the discrimination laws and keep them from over running the place.
