I'm helping a relative value and part with a small firearm collection and am trying to figure out an approximate value and info on this Smith. From what I can gather, it is a Smith & Wesson .38 Hand Ejector Military & Police Model 1905 (and I could be completely wrong). I took a couple photos. The grips appear to be aftermarket and the blueing is quite good for the age I suspect it is. The serial number on the bottom of the grip is 53XXXX.

I'm not a revolver person, so any info would be helpful.

    That is impressive!

It's really clean. If I'm right and it's from the 30's (I could be way off there, I just gathered that from a few random forums while doing some internet searching), it's amazing to me that the blueing is as decent as it is.

The main problem with helping someone sell their firearms is I usually want them all.

It's a "Victory" model. I've got one just like it, and yes, the grips on yours are different.

I can't get a good photo of it, but it's as follows...

SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS USA
    PATENTED FEB. 6. 08. SEPT. 14. 09. DEC. 29. 14
Sounds like mine. I will upload some photos tomorrow. Mine is serial number 353XXX. It has been parkerized and was used as a "barn gun" by the previous owner.

I looked at that forum, but didn't want to join just to ask one question.
Nice Smith...I think somewhere in the 500-600 range would be fair for both parties.
That's what I was thinking initially. I just wanted to be sure. Plus I think it's a nice revolver and was surprised when I started searching and realized how old it likely is.

What you have there is a '4th change' .38 Hand Ejector.

    Exc. 1200
    V.G. 950
    Good 650
    Fair 400
    Poor 150

All according to '2021 Standard Catalog of Firearms 31st Edition'

The definition of 'Good' is firearm must retain at least 80% finish with possible alterations to the firearm.
Not having the original (to the gun) grips just cost you $300...

I actually like these grips better, but maybe not $300 better.
