what is difference between 5.56 and .223? will my gun shoot both? I have only put .223 through it though...

is it one of those things like brake fluid? if it takes and shoots .223 than it will shoot 5.56, but if its 5.56 it wont shoot .223???

Always worry about which is more powerful.

.223/5.56mm = 5.56 mm is the more powerful
So if you're weapon is 5.56, you can fire either.

    .308/7.62mm = .308 is the more powerful
So if your weapon is .308, you can fire either.

    .357mag/.38 = .357 is the more powerful
So if your weapon is .357,, you can fire either.

    Clif note response ...

    .223 chamber
    .223 ammo > yes
    5.56 ammo > no

    5.56 chamber
    .223 ammo > yes
    5.56 ammo > yes

*Added ... of equal importance with "power" is headspacing

Barrel is probably stamp under the handguards. Probably need to take them off to check. Stamp on the lower doesn't mean anything.

As for 7.62/.308 there is no real difference, you can shoot both out of any chamber.

Look closely. It should be stamped somewhere on the barrel. If you are 100% sure that it's the original upper/lower combination, I suppose you could trust the markings on the lower. However, I would want to know for sure and would check the entire barrel. It should have the chambering as well as the twist rate stamped on the barrel.

BTW ... If you really, really care and have some time .... 5.56 vs .223. It's a long read but should answer your questions on this topic.

"most of the time they come in last but they finish together"
:wow: what a good story. He may come in last but the kid is doing the work of 2 kids not one. So he is getting stronger and stronger than the rest. :)

    Go Hawks!

yea.. I had the hand grips off once, without the tool its a PITA.. Ill wait and just continue with .223
If you can't get them off with your bare hands, use the handles of channel locks around the delta ring. Most ARs can shoot 5.56, but check anyway.
