New (used) vehicle purchased out of state

Buying a truck and being gifted a camper. From an individual in possesion of both titles who lives in TN. Know I need a Bill of Sale. I am prepared to pay sales tax on the truck when I register it. Anyone know if I need other documentation and if it's better to be gifted the camper or buy it for a dollar? Or split the cost of the truck over both. Sales tax would be the same. Probably save paperwork.

No idea for the taxes but for out of state titles you have to have a VIN check done by LE. Call your local PD or Sheriff dept for it.

Okay, I just called my local PD and they came out and filled out a form and gave it to me.

ETA after a quick check it can be done either way, if LE they can charge up to $5.

The reason you "gift" it and not sell it for a dollar is so you are not subject to additional tax when you go to sell it. (Capital Gains)

Depends on what if anything you plan on selling in the future.

Did you get the VIN check on both the truck and camper? Your earlier response was ambiguous. Just speculating that you need both.

There's a document to fill out if it's a gift that you sign saying it was a gift and that's that. No further questions for the one I did. No idea if there's a limit that flags you for review.

NO BOS needed... at least I've never been asked for one.
