A word or two on Background checks
There is much talk about expanding background checks toprivate sales between individuals; this would include private sellers at gunshows. Besides the many arguments you may have heard about this issue there isone overshadowing truth that the politicians won’t tell you.
THEY WON’T WORK, otherthan at gun shows there is no way to enforce this new requirement. If you havea gun and want to sell it to an individual or if you wish to purchase a gunfrom another individual but don’t want to submit to a background check who isgoing to know. Gun registry is not andwill not become part of the law, there is standing case law which forbids gunregistry and without a way for thegovernment to know who has what gun there is no way to trace who sold a gun to who.
Needless to say criminals aren’t going to worry too muchabout laws. There are many honest people in this country who don’t want to submitto a background check for reasons of their own, often just because they valuetheir privacy and don’t trust government. So as usual the new unenforceable regulation will only accomplish onething. Making criminals out of otherwise honest people.
