Found some yesterday here in the GSF we'll go out again today. I mix hunting for morels with poaching/trespassing patrol.

There are old mushroom hunters and there are bold mushroom hunters, but there are no old bold mushroom hunters.

We had a 'get well soon' card hanging on the wall at the poison center that read, "Greetings amateur mycologist! I hope the transplant team finds you a liver soon..."

How long can you store them until you have enough to prepare a meal with ?
I have fond memories of my brother making soup with them.

Gave a quick look around where I'm at and didn't see any, a week and maybe more like two is my guess. A buddy of mine found some point ivy on one of his arms, and in his pants! :): Watch the poison though fellas, your boys will thank you!

I've heard of both freezing and dehydrating them, but have never tried it. I've kept them in the refrigerator in salt water for three days to get enough to make a meal if the gathering is slow.

Thanks for that information. What's your favorite way to fix them ?
I would assume sauteed in butter and garlic would be a treat.

Garlic is too strong and covers the flavor. My favorite way is to saute in butter with small pieces of steak so the meat cooks at the same rate as the mushrooms. Put this hot mess on toasted bun.
