I find that if you tap them a bit after you pick them you knock spores down so you'll have mushrooms in the same spot the next year, Also if you see one before picking it look around there is usually another within 16-25 feet of the first!
(Hopefully these tips help some of the newer morel gatherers, I know they've come in handy when I've gathered them!)

Also have heard to carry in a fishnet type sack, so that the spores can follow your trail LOL

Not much beats a fried mushroom/butter bread sammich :)

I think this is the first "I'm going crazy because I've been cooped up all winter" mushroom thread of the year. Myself, I can't wait for mushroom season to start. It is the best time of year no question.

The only thing better than fried mushrooms is a side of bluegills with them. In the old days we also added fried potatoes, but trying to get healthy. Thanks for adding to my cabin fever.

Anyone ever look in cedars? Last couple years i have found some big yellows, under cedars. Found around 7 lbs in 5 minutes. Cant wait to see whats there this year. Most woods have been logged around me and they just dont grow there any more.

I've never gone mushroom hunting before. Or ever had a morel. Hey I'm not from here. We had these growing last year. I'm guessing they are not edible, but they looked cool anyway.

Conditions in 2011 may have been the best ever. Certainly in this old-timer's life. I remember a year, was likely 1968, that was also very good. 2011 was probably the best. I found a ton that year. Last year wasn't very good at all.
