In 1916 the United States minted the mercury dime (under Woodrow Wilson), has the U.S. been toying with Facism? You decide:

The fasces was the symbol of the Roman Republic and has been used for centuries to symbolize republican virtues. The Mercury dime was first minted in 1916. The term "fascist" had not yet been invented and came into existence only in 1919 with the Mussolini's new party first using the word, reflecting the party's nostalgia for the Imperial Rome of Italy's past.

    Your postulate is remarkably ridiculous.

On a slightly related note. The one and only time I have heard Ron Paul speak was on Meet the Press and he made a pretty convincing case that we in the US have allowed "soft" fascism to become a reality.

It might be soft now, but the way the left keeps stroking it, it won't be soft for long.
