Friend of mine asked me today wouldn't thee be able to leave a weapon in the car during a shift under the current laws. If it was almost anywhere else I would have said probably can but...

1 I dont know enough about the maritime laws (international harbor)

2 I have no idea about Gaming Commission law. I don't visit boats.

Any help with links to ICs would be great, please not conjecture.

The IC doesn't specifically list by name the entities that are exempt from the parking lot law. Why doesn't he just make use of the secure lockbox that the casino must provide any patron who wishes to carry a weapon but cannot carry on the riverboat? Does Majestic Star have a policy against employees using the patron lock boxes?

My guess is that the employee didn't wish to let their employer know that they maybe carrying in the near future.

Its a common occurrence for dealers to be threatened by patrons who lose money. The employee is in the process of getting a license and weapon. If its against company policy but not against state/ federal law they are of the opinion that coorporate policy doesn't save anyone out on Cline Ave or 94.

A friend of mine, who is employed by an Indiana casino, related to me that he wasn't allowed to be a "patron" of his own casino by policy, so the lockbox would probably be a no-go, and I am sure the casino has a no firearm policy for employees!

When I used to work there, gaming at your employers casino was a no no under the IGC regs. You could still be a patron, just couldn't gamble. ie go drink at the bar etc. But no hanging out with your friends at the table or slot machines.

But when I was going to school for Trump's I asked that question about an employee using the lock boxs. I was told pretty much not only no, but hell no. But this was long before the parking lot law.

Not as common as you might think, at least not from my experience. Occasional insults, but almost never any threats, and when you deal craps most people lose.

You're still giving the player the game instruments (dice) and taking and paying out bets, so yeah, I'd still say you're dealing.

You cannot be a patron of a Casino you work......
I used to work at Belterra

I used to work at trump and majestic, we were free to be a patron but not allowed to gamble or be in gaming areas with friends and family. I could enter with friends and sit at the bar while they gambled but that was it. We could also hit the bar in the lobby and the restaurant/buffet if we wanted.

"Deal" craps? Is that a misnomer, or is it the industry vernacular to use to term "deal" even for a game like craps that doesn't use cards?

I guess you would say it's industry vernacular. A roulette table operator is a dealer also, same with the one that runs the big 6 wheel.

Let me throw this into the mix. Why would you not be allowed to keep it in the car/parking lot if I can stay at a hotel attached to the casino with a gun without issue?

I questioned the uninformed "guard" at the metal detectors at that ****hole casino once. I knew more about the laws than he did. I just freaked him out. I basically asked him what was the procedure if I had a gun. He got all freaked out, couldn't answer anything, and kept asking if I had one. I told him no several times. But as far as I know, they are supposed to have lock boxes for you, as the metal detectors are still on land, so you're not on the boat yet. He said something about getting a gaming commissioner to answer my questions. I said nevermind, seeing I didn't have a pistol on me anyways. Anyways, majestic is a ****hole. Lol

Since there was much conjecture on the topic and a lot of uninformed people opined what the casino was "required by law " to do, I decided I'd jump through the hoops at IN Live just to find out how it really works. I asked on a previous visit and was told they wanted the gun to be unloaded when I entered the casino. They do have lockers which were barely large enough to hold my Glock 23. I don't think it would have fit with a magazine in it. They made a copy of my LTCH and my driver's license and put them in the locker with the gun. They did not at any point touch the gun. Turned out what they actually meant by "unloaded" was that ammo is not allowed in the casino. I had to take the ammo back to my car. Did it once. Didn't like it. Won't do it again.

For those who wish to argue every point, I do not in any way agree with the policy. Simply providing info on how it worked.
