Definitely wasn't something I was hoping to see this morning after last nights storms. We lost one of our older trees on the property last night. Judging from the bottom half of the stump still standing it was on borrowed time anyways. Took out at least a corner of our storage shed, can't really get close enough to determine exactly how bad yet. Also took out the neighbors play set.

Pretty sure my little ole 16" chainsaw isn't going to be able to clean all this mess up.

I could only HOPE that a storm would take out my mini-barn!

But that really stinks for your, Swom. That looks like a ~70-ish year old tree or so. Good looking canopy. :(

Yea this is our 10th year here and the 3rd sizeable tree we have lost in that time. At this pace by the time i retire I won't have to worry about raking leaves!

That's a typical beech tree for you. Once they get big, they normally hollow out. Also plan on dulling your chains quicker than usual if critters have been dragging dirt and debris inside to make shelter. Make those trunk cuts last if possible to extend chain life.

It makes good firewood, high on the btu list.

Thanks bocefus78, other than the oak trees on our property the 2 or 3 non-oaks always leave me guessing as to what they are.

Don't feel lonely, I lost the biggest tree on my property. I know I won't be cleaning this one up by myself. This is one of the limbs, not the main trunk...it is resting one the ground and I can drive my Jeep under it...

The main trunk split, half went east, half went west...

    You win for sure!

Took a closer look at ours at lunch time and wasn't just the corner of the first mini barn, pretty much wiped it completely out. Did 2 holes in the roof of another barn as well.
