Lost brass at Training Class/Match?

How do you IPSC,IDPA, 3-gun and training class junkies handle brass from semi-autos?


Are classes and matches just considered "lost brass" or are you given an opportunity to collect?

Any one use a brass catcher?


Thinking about purchasing an AR (or the like) for competition/training, but out of principle cannot lose that much brass.

You can police your brass at USPSA events, if you do it quickly.

The same goes for classes, but only after the class is over for the day.

I am what they call a "donator", I leave my brass where it lays, I look at it as though I am giving back to mother Earth.

Since I am not ACTIVELY reloading right now, I let the active "vultures" take up my brass on the condition they use it.

A brass catcher is usually problematic because it keeps the bolt hidden and in many matches that is a safety violation.

With the group I've shot with in the past, everyone rounds up your brass for you and places it on the table. If you want it, it's yours. If not, someone will take it for you.

I've never lost brass.

I shoot with the group at Bend on the River CC in Niles.

Does anyone mark their brass with colors or anything? We used to use a green magic marker on the primer side of the case to distinguish our brass. Makes it easier to sort out at the end of a shoot.

If I'm shooting a sanctioned match, State, National, Major competition, etc. most of them are "lost brass". It's a safety issue, they don't want folks scurrying for brass and tying up the match while they're running it as quickly as possible. I don't blame them at all. At those matches, I load up with a bunch of Blazer and leave it all lay. Shooting local IDPA and USPSA matches, you can usually collect your own with no problem. I used to mark mine on the base of the cartridge with a cross of red magic marker.
