LOL, hotels, you funny! You say you want to be green, but you really just want to use guilt to cut expenses.

Speaking of which, I was just looking, and saw a place (I previously stayed at) in Bulgaria for $40 / night!

And it's a nice place - two floor studio apartment, kitchen, big comfy bed, and a big terrace that overlooks the city and fortress... the only downside was that the bathroom was upstairs, and everything else was downstairs.

But $40 a night?! I'm tellin' ya that country is a cheap spot for a vacay.
I knew a guy in polisci school who did his big international experience in Bulgaria. He loved it, had the time of his life. Said it was cheap as hell and the people were great.

It was one of the western suburbs. I had to go for work. There were a couple of unescorted ladies in the lobby type areas rather late but they seemed to be breathing. And when I complained about the charge, I did mention I should get credit on my bill for the value of the aluminum.

When I stay at motels/hotels, I immediately put the "do not disturb" sign on the door and it stays there until I check out unless I'm staying for a long time.

I don't want anyone in my room.

This. I don't think I've seen a softer complaint then I didn't get a new towel every day. 10 ply soft.

I also don't stay in cheap hotels. Not because I mind cheap hotels, but because of the clientele in cheap hotels. I recon the surrounding area via Google Earth, read reviews, and then book.
