When a person was adopted in Indiana in the past with a court sealed adoption, there was an Official AMENDED Birth Certificate created with the adoptive parents names on it and the new name of the adoptee.
The ORIGINAL Birth Certificate was sealed.

In Indiana when one needs an official Birth Certificate, they go to the Department of Health in the county they were born and get it.

BUT in the case of an adoptee, they have an AMENDED Indiana Birth Certificate with no knowledge of the county they were actually born in.
SO WHO DO THEY CONTACT TO GET ANOTHER OFFICIAL COPY OF THEIR AMENDED INDIANA BIRTH CERTIFICATE?

I found out today that the ONLY way to get a copy of a person adopted in Indiana their AMENDED birth certificate is to go through the Indiana State Board of Health.

They don't accept walk in customers, and if an adoptee was born out of state, there's NO WAY to be able to complete the application for a Birth Certificate because it's impossible to get past the what county in Indiana were you born in?

So NOW it's just hoping to reach them by phone, and hoping to get somebody competent enough to push the process along.
And then if it can, to wait 180 days or more to get the birth certificate.

There's STILL more about the adoption system in Indiana that needs to be fixed.
It SHOULD be just as easy for an adoptee to get their amended birth certificate in the county where the court handled the adoption as for anybody else who walks into their county office.

Back when I went we were there at opening time and out by 11 am.

    Current timing sucks…
The Indiana State Board of Health isn't open to walk in customers according to their website.
They say to go to your local health department, YET the local health department is unable to generate a birth certificate for an Indiana adoptee.
