If you're not into Star Wars, haven't seen Kenobi, don't care to see it, probably shouldn't bother reading on. Also, spoiler alert applies.

So the new Kenobi series dropped on Disney (yes, I still have Disney+, no, I don't care if you dropped it). There's a new character, Reva, that seems to have caused great controversy in the Star Wars fandom. It seems Disney isn't allowed to cast a Black person without people crying "woke!" :runaway:

Don't get me wrong. I hate woke as much as anyone. I started the original Insane Social Justice thread. I've been very vocal about wokeness creeping into all the major social institutions. But C'mon, man. This ain't that. There's nothing "woke" about Reva's character. She's a decent actor, I think better than Rupert Friend, who plays the Grand Inquisitor. Granted, he has a tougher job because he has to convince us that he is the same Grand Inquisitor that was featured in SW Rebels. And to the point, he doesn't.

She's a villain. She's supposed to do evil things. She's supposed to be hated. So go ahead and hate her character. But c'mon. All this hate towards the actor herself? All these idiot videos showing up in my youtube feed are WAY more annyoying than Reva's character. She's actually getting racist slurs in comments. N-word, and whatnot.

My only complaint about Reva has more to do with consistency with the star wars universe, particularly, unexpectedly, she put a light saber through the Grand Inquisitor's gut. If he dies, I'm probably done with the series. Because, c'mon. At least be consistent with the show you wrote just a few years ago. The Grand Inquisitor died in rebels at the hands of Ezra and Kanan, which occurs ~5 years after the events in Kenobi. That would be a huge retcon and most sane star wars fan (as sane as a star wars fan can be) are quite certain that the GI will live. And probably be quite pissed that Reva opened him up like that. I digress.

It's fine to pick apart actual woke ********. Like Episode 8's completely irrelevant woke trip to the casino that turned out not to have any impact on the plot at all. This? Not woke. Not every "diverse" actor is an invocation of wokeness. Reva is supposed to be hated. The actress who plays her is just doing her job. And if you hate her character, good, you're supposed to. She DID her job then.

I'm not sure how they are getting any wokeness out of this? If it was originally written as a white guy and then replaced with a black female, that's woke. I didn't have any problem with the character but I did find the child Leia pretty annoying.

    I didn't think I'd see a full on r/saltierthancrait rant on INGO today :laugh6:

Rumor is that her character is gonna wind up the hero of the story in the end. No matter where you go in scifi, no matter which character's name is on the show, there is no escaping Angry Impulsive Black Female Character With That Haircut.

Sure do love Ewan though, he makes every other scene look like trash by comparison.

First and foremost...you're falling into a common trap.

True star wars fans hate star wars.

Second who cares about a black chick playing a character.

    Third.
Obi wan lives and is just fine until ep 4. This show happens before then so you cant create suspense with putting him in danger. Same with Leia.

    Forth
Please please please can we stop telling the ****ing Skywalker ****ing story. Give me a new time period give me new fresh characters.

The character Reva was created for this series. The third sister, so I don't know if she was ever conceived to be any other race, but definitely female. Now if she identifies as male, that would be woke AF.

But Leia, OMG, you're spot on with that.

I don't think Obi-wan's story needed told. But, I liked the character, so fine. Tell it. But it suffers from the same problem that Rogue One did. We all knew they died. The story didn't need to be told how they died. But as Star Wars movies go, it was good. I liked Rogue One. They told a good story. Solo, OTOH, that one kinda sucked.

So far, apart from an annoying little brat featured too prominently in the show, I have an overall positive impression of the series.

But you're kinda right about star wars fans actually hating star wars. They have an idea of what star wars is in their heads, and then they get pissy when continuations of the stories don't follow what they thought it was.

    Probably at some point lol.

It's gotten ten times harder to grow a reddit account that isn't shadow banned in every sub by default, and ten times harder to keep one running for any length of time. The site has been completely overtaken by ideological crazy people. All conservative leaning subs lock out new accounts, and if you do manage to get posts to show up, the wokies trawl those subs and permaban people for literally everything. It's bugnuts.

    Rogue one was garbage.

The comment from the original series that spawned this **** movie is "many bothans died" not all of them. Why did they all have to die? Why the dumb "love story" why the political **** that went no where. The last 15 seconds with Vader is what the movie should have been. Vader chasing our heros from town to town ship to ship. That would have been much better.

I didn't think it was a bad story. Could it have been better? Sure.

    a) kid Leia is annoying, and NOT 10 years old (at least if she is human). Damn free-range kids.
    b) Bad guys are glaringly incompetent. Just grab the kid and muzzle her.
    c) If Luke's uncle knows Kenobi, how on earth did they NOT know him in episode IV? "I wonder if he means old Ben Kenobi?".

I don't follow all the comics, cartoons, books, etc... So, no opinion on how well it follows canon.

I wasn't getting any woke vibes from it.
The "chinese" alien in the rickpicker hat could be argued as being a racist move by Disney... yes.

Kind of gave Kenobi the same "I don't care" vibe as Luke in those HORRIBLE ****ING NEW MOVIES.
Maybe it was supposed to be a explanation to soften as to why Luke was such a bitch in "the last jedi".

Kenobi needed to put a blaster round in little leia's leg. Or just gave he a good bounce on the ground after slowing her down...

NOTE: I, like hand solo before me, am a pirate and watch D+ on one of my kids account...

I was hoping for a dark version of obI-wans story. We still might get it. I just hope it does not become the REVA show instead of the obI-wan show. Like boba fet became the Grogu and Mandy show.

You have a chance to look into the grief of losing a friend to mental Illness and all of the Things I could have done or seen to tell me this was going to happen.

I want Star Wars to go from pg-13 to R rated. A look into the shady underbelly of planets. Not just a random spice advertisement. We who were into the Star Wars in the late 1970’s are mature enough to handle a non kid friendly version from the Star Wars universe.

I guess it makes since to keep the kids into it. Sure do that. But give another look into something more adult friendly. You do have to make it “pulp fiction in space” then again a pulp fiction in space I would think would be a best seller.

    Spoiler alert:

My office neighbor and others had their panties in a wad about continuity. He said that Leia never met Obi. She only knew of him by name as her father's general. (?) But had actually never met the man per how episode 4 framed things. And I guess she meets him in this? :dunno:

(Im not watching, just thought you might be interested in the observation)
