Do they actually house anyone there, or is it just overnight stays until they get low bond or ORed out ?It would be interesting to know the county of origin for those in the Marion County Jail.
Ballard certainly had is faults, but his administration, and Indy in general, were no where near the s*** show they have become under Hogsett.Oh hell no. Some of what we are reaping now was due to his total ineptitude while in office. One of the worst Mayors Indy has ever had. Maybe THE worst.
The damage that he did with the MILLIONS he wasted with improper/underhanded contracts for the electric cars, charging stations, and an IMPD Roll Call that was WAY overpaid and falling apart, and there there was Public Safety Director Straub. Straub, the single most hated person in the City. He ran IMPD into the ground so he could build it up. Sadly, all he did was run it into the ground. Years of his hiring freeze is still being felt and is making our current manpower issues, worse. He knew how to spend money on himself and little on anything else.Ballard certainly had is faults, but his administration, and Indy in general, were no where near the s*** show they have become under Hogsett.
Bravo to the Prosecutor in Johnson County for his efforts. Unlike that woke “prosecutor” in Marion, crimes will be strongly prosecuted in Johnson County.
Hogsett is now talking about hiring another Public Safety Director. Any bets on whether that one will be anything but Straub part 2?The damage that he did with the MILLIONS he wasted with improper/underhanded contracts for the electric cars, charging stations, and an IMPD Roll Call that was WAY overpaid and falling apart, and there there was Public Safety Director Straub. Indy crime is a societal issue. The kids raised by crappy parents are growing up into become criminals...who would have thought? Mayor Hogsett is going about addressing the crime the wrong way but the City was headed in this direction for a LONG time. Judges have LONG kept criminals out of jail and we are seeing the results. Mayors have SOME influence but in reality, the public is responsible for their own behavior.
We've had great PSD in the past but Straub was a special kind of awful. We'll see. It really doesn't matter if we have one or not. It's political spinning at it's best. Until we get Judges to actually impose harsher sentences, a prosecutor who actually files charges, and MOST importantly, citizens to look inward and come to terms with the fact that THEY helped create this mess and HAVE to help fix it, nothing will change.Hogsett is now talking about hiring another Public Safety Director. Especially agree with that last part. How many times do you see interviews with people in the 'hood that want the police to "do something" but they themselves are unwilling to talk to the police. These people know exactly who are committing the crimes. The whole "snitches get stitches" mentality keeps them in business. We've had great PSD in the past but Straub was a special kind of awful. And a choice.Societal decay is a contagion.
I lived in a rural county close to a big city. The Sheriff was tough as nails and didn’t tolerate trash spilling over the county border. On the major road into the county, there was a giant billboard with his frowning face, and the message something like “here we deal with crime harshly, criminals better do a u-turn”.LOL, makes you wonder if we will see new signs at the county line... "Now leaving the inept jurisdiction of Ryan Mears, welcome to Johnson County where laws are enforced and criminals are punished"
There is one exception which I was shocked by and that was when Indy decided very recently to pony up cash for more federal prosecutors to hit more of these thugs with federal gun charges.
Say what you will, but there is a distinct slam dunk often times for Federal gun crimes imagine this common scenario for such cases

Then libs moved in, feefees got hurt, Sheriff got replaced, billboard went down and crime went up.
This is the key.…and MOST importantly, citizens to look inward and come to terms with the fact that THEY helped create this mess and HAVE to help fix it, nothing will change.
