Stores learned their is no need to be open 24-7.
Think what just Walmart is saving on labor at night with employees and a store with six customers in it.
The concept back in the day, was we have employees unloading and stocking at night why not have a couple more to ring out those night owls, after all the lights are on…

I think just about all grocery stores do this now. Not saying they could do away with restocking during the day entirely, but when I get there and the store has only been open for a couple of hours and the shelves are empty, there is just no excuse for that. They didn't sell out in the first 2 hours.
They straighten everything up after they close at night and then stock first thing the next morning before they open. If it won't all fit on the shelves, they do some restocking during the day. Mostly, they just pull out the empty boxes and pull stuff forward to straightening up at the end of the day goes faster. Her store just changed its hours so they close an hour earlier every night now.

I just wish they'd use that time to stock the shelves like they did in the old days (when stores were closed at night). I hate trying to maneuver around pallets and hand carts while grocery shopping, or wanting to buy something that is not on the shelf yet but is probably sitting in the back room.
Shift to online ordering. We did. Minus produce and things we are picky on but now we online order a lot more.

I'm thinking more about Kroger, but Aldi does it too down here. I've actually had to go around and come down an aisle from a different direction because there wasn't room to get down the aisle with their big pallet of stuff in the middle.

    Oh goody.

    Dealing with gallstones wasn't enough.
    Let's throw in a migraine.

Back pain/muscle spasms from getting rear-ended, and upper abdominal/lower chest pain from I don’t know what (possible ulcer?) kept me up over here. Doesn’t help that I had two stents put in back in April so it’s hard not to think of it as being cardiovascular. This year’s been a lot of fun so far…

I still need/want to "shop around" on some things, so online ordering wouldn't be a very good fit for me except in very limited circumstances.

I do the Local stores to get a "Hands-On" feel - the go online for best prices

Unless it's something I HAVE to have Immediately - then I will pay the higher Local price
